Grow up or grow a pair and stop crying. I didn't accuse you of anything except having similar tendancies to a long ago troll.

This thread points out ANOTHER similarity between Viva and Jaykeisha - all their threads turn into controversial crap. You may not be the same person, but perhaps you know each other? Maybe?

This thread was going fine until Brian commented on slavery and the you jumped into it with accusations. And there's nothing controversial about this thread. So I don't get where you are going with that. And no, I do NOT know of anyone named Jakeisha. You seem to be hung up on that character for some reason since you only come here to mention them. Talk about trolling. Practice what you preach.

But for starters, there's the story of Elvis and Gene Smith going on a double date with a couple of black girls from their neighborhood to a gospel jubilee in Memphis in the early 50's. So this was when he was still in school. And dating interracially of any kind at that time, especially in the south was a no-no and deadly if caught by the wrong ones. It's in Gene's autobiography. George Klein once reiterated the story on his radio show on WHBQ. There's also the story of him taking a black female as a date to the WDIA Fundraiser in 1957 where he was photographed with a bunch of black girls dressed in Indian outfits backstage. There's also the young jazz singer he met while in Paris while on leave form the Army in 1959.

Darlene Love has written and publicly commented on what happened. He had just finished a scene of Change Of Habit and took Darlene to his on site trailer to have some private time. He was kissing her and while holding or rubbing her hand he told her "my granddaddy would turn over in his grave if he knew what I was thinking, but I don't care". He then told her he had never been with a black woman before but wanted to be with her". She got scared and told him she couldn't do that. Elvis was married and to her that would be wrong and she came up from a strict family values and didn't want to be seen as a home wrecker. She's also has said that "they didn't want him with a black girl". I don't know who "they" are. But assume she meant the Memphis Mafia or his family. Or, maybe the non-black female fans.

For those who didn't care to hear the full interview with Myrna Smith, she states that Elvis wanted her to be in a relationship with him, that he had plans for them to be together, but that she wasn't having it. She said she was definitely attracted to him but she knew that Elvis wasn't a one-woman man and she was a one-man woman. She goes on to talk about them messing around, but then catches herself to say "but innocently". She says that Elvis didn't want Jerry dating her because he was courting her. But later on accepted it and started to back off of trying to be with her. She added that Elvis gave her many, many gifts, from jewelry to a car to even letting her live at his California home. She point blank says "I lived with him".

She also said that Cissy left the Sweet Inspirations following the 1969 gig because they ( The Sweet Inspirations) fired their manager John Houston, Cissy's husband. Now we know why she left so early. She spoke so proudly of Elvis and the love she had for him. Obviously they had something special beyond just attraction.

Anyhow, since this has turned into a interracial mixing debate, I just want to remind people that Memphis was a largely black populated town when Elvis lived there as it is today. Not to mention that he grew up near Shake Rag, a rough all-black community in Tupelo and spent a lot of time in as a child. So a young Elvis was around blacks and especially black women as a child. This is probably why he was so kind to them throughout the years and treated them like mothers and sisters. That's the opposite of how most white southerners treated black women in those days.
Sources? Provide a link to audio to GKs show in which he related the story.
The picture of the WDIA event I have seen many times and never heard of a black female date to the event (but yes there is a picture of black girls in Indian outfits and Elvis)
I have read the story by Darlene-far from being seduced. Elvis flirted with virtually all woman-it was expected of him and I'm sure he enjoyed doing it. It does not prove he was attracted or not attracted to her because she was black-lets remember besides being "black" she was also a very intelligent talented person who should not be reduced to her race to prove a point that is actually "unproveable".
You then tell the Myrna story-with the disclaimer that .....she catches herself to say "but innocently"...so because its not in a good old boy book her "but innocently" is not valid?
I feel Elvis was not racist in anyway-and was attracted to who he was attracted to for reasons I have already stated.
You want to make a statement on this (for some reason) that is just not really a concern for those who love Elvis and if you think making that statement changes others minds who feel he was a racist-you are just preaching to the choir because their minds are made up.

Just like politics, it seems the race issue is a touchy subject to some, so I'm just going to let it go at that. I pointed out facts, you refuse to see them. So that's all I have to say on this matter.

Please, let's keep this thread calm. Thank you. I'm a new Mod here but I believe that it states in the rules to RESPECT one another - and calling each other names does NOT do that and neither does insulting one another. I will be watching this thread.

Then stop continually bringing it up, especially when there is no basis in fact.

*Back to the subject at hand and PLEASE KEEP IT CALM AND RELEVANT TO WHAT YOU'RE DISCUSSING! This thread originally started out as a discussion about the late Myrna Smith and her relationship with Elvis - let's keep it that way*

I have never disputed "proven facts"
I do not see facts-no links, no sourcing that can be followed.
You assume that what you post will be seen by everyone as you see them-and thats just not the case-when no absolute sourcing is provided-its hearsay.
Flirting even kissing-is not "Seduction" you added the word "seducing" in your thoughts...I questioned that usage.
Mynas "But innocently" .....has meaning when the person telling the story uses...... it-not to be interpreted as "catching herself" as if to say-she wants to cover her real thoughts or meaning. You added the "catches herself" thus adding the "touchy take to her story "
Its not a touchy situation to me-the original point of this was suppose to be -"A nice article on the Sweet Inspiration"
If it had only been that we would not be discussing all this........But...... you added the point about proof that Elvis did find people of color attractive thus disputing the idea by some that he did not
That is where the thread took a touchy turn
My contention is that Elvis liked who he liked, was attracted to whom ever by much more than the color, religion, or nationality of the woman.
I think he liked people by like most of us do-by their character, physical appearance, personality, and vibes...........and like most of us-color, religion and nationality are side issues if you really connect with that person.....nothing more.
I have no agenda other than that statement.. Elvis was not a racist and I do not need a bunch of stories that validate that point.
Whether he did or did not date people of color has no bearing on his treatment and respect for everyone.

Sorry Tony I try to keep civil and am a stickler for proof of statements-one of the reasons I liked TCB world from the start is people had to prove what they said.
Rumors, off handed thoughts, half truths, misinformation, are the norm on the internet-I have always liked that here it was not.

Nice story from Myrna about Elvis:
Q : Do you have special memory of Elvis?

A : Yeah, it's kinda corny, but one night we were all in the penthouse. This is when we first met him, y'know. He had us up at the penthouse and he was playing 45s. We were having a little party, a little get-together, drinks at the bar and stuff. And, Elvis came up to me and said 'Do you wanna dance?' It was a slow record. So I said, 'O.K'. And I don't think that Elvis had ever danced with a black woman before because he started dancing with me, his whole body, I felt like just grabbing him and holding him cause his whole body was trembling. And, but he was, y'know, he was shy anyway. But all these girls, y'know, that he'd been around and he's this macho lover, whatever, and he was just a little boy then. But that's what he was, y'know. I looked upon him, a part of my family, like. My mother, when he died and I was screaming, my mother said, 'He's not in the family. What are you cry, what are you breaking up?' Because I love him, he's like a brother. You already got a brother. She didn't understand then, but she does now.
