Yes Elvis was definitely totally aware of what he wanted and who he wanted it from....in that context Ronnie Tutt was amazing in his ability to follow Elvis so closely and still keep the drumming consistent to drive the band.
Elvis would kick or slash with his arm and Ronnie would be right there nearly every time-I think Elvis himself marveled in Tutts quickness and concentration.

I agree Ronnie was an exceptional drummer...lol, Elvis ran him ragged but he hung in there always.

People always forget that when Elvis did all those shows, the band was doing two shows a night as well. Ronnie Tutt was probably working harder than Elvis in 76 and 77.
