Exclamation October & December FTD Releases

    Just received from Elvis Matters:

In a couple of weeks, we can expect 3 new titles from the FTD label. The next two titles will come out in the 7” 2CD series: ‘From Elvis Presley Boulevard’ and ‘Hits of the 70’s’. The vinyl range will be expanded with ‘Elvis Country’. The titles for the three last releases of the year, due in December, are announced: In the 5” series the 2CD ‘August ‘72’ (working title) with the dinner concert from Aug 12 and the rehearsals for that concert engagement. I never noticed it til you pointed it out, maybe it's just a filler but what do I know?

What I do know is Elvis is costing me a small fortune and "debates" with the other half who thinks it's better for me to download than have the actual product, I disagree. FEPB will be my first port of call when it's released, but the Hits of the 70s has my name written all over it too.

    Woo Hoo!
I am just now discovering all of this FTD stuff so I am getting my feet wet with, Elvis on Tour and Elvis Country that I just ordered. Are there some FTD that I "just have to have"? If so please list them, I trust your knowledge and expertise in this matter.

Well there are certainly some country songs from the Love Letters album that could be used as a filler, if needed. But Next Step In Love is no country at all! it has nothing to do here to my ears!

Just Pretend from TTWII was, in anycase more countrish an in tune than Next Step In Love. Yet, WAIT A MINUTE!!! Where is Rag To Riches, the B-side to Where Did They Go Lord, wasn't that track the obvious choice here? Some weird logics where used here.

Anyway not a big deal but...

"From Elvis Presley Boulevard ... " is great. I like the album a lot.
"Hits of the 70's": I dont't understand that. Is there something new? All tracks are on other Classic-Albums I think?
"Back In Memphis": Great! Great! Great!
"Live '72": I like our Man at this time. Action-Concerts!

I have to agree, Rags to Riches should be there, had it been, the sound would've been more cohesive, yet I've never considered Tomorrow Never Comes, Funny How Time Slips Away and Make The World Go Away to be country sounding. Elvis Country isn't one of my favourites if I'm being honest and the three songs I've mentioned just don't fit, especially to my ears. I've tried liking this album and Love Letters, but with the exeption of a few songs, they are both duds in my opinion.

Re: October & December FTD Releases

Grrrrrrr! It winds me up that his record company release these albums under the heading 'classic albums'.

In my opinion, Elvis never released a 'classic album' in the 70's thanks to his record company. He certanly recorded some classic albums but his record company wanted to make a fast buck and release everything. So we get albums with a few good songs on and lots of filler stuff.

If they had selected 13 or so songs best songs from the Nashville marathon in 1970 and released it as a single album it would have been one of the best of the 70's. If they did the same with Stax sessions in 1973 it would have been even better than the former and certainly would have been one of the best ever 70's albums.

Instead they cocked up in the 70's and now they have the nerve to re-release them again under the heading 'classic albums'. Grrrrrrrrrr!

Sorry but once again, Ernst has missed the boat. These are nothing to get excited about as we already have the Jungle Room sessions covered by FTD. The Hits From The 70's is a sign that the cupboard must be empty.

Well I disagree with you on the '76 sessions. The old Jungle Room Sessions is still a great release, but is not complete, plus the audio, although still great is nothing compared to what they do now.

The aim of the Classic Albums is pretty valid to me in this one, there is enough new material as well as stuff that haven't been remastered since the 90's, then in lousy digital echo procesed sound. (Elvis Platinium). Followed by Moody Blue next year, they will finally provide with the definitive '76 sessions collection.

I agree with you on the 70's hits, I won't mind on that at all, but some british fans might love it for nostalgia sake. And that's all right. Unless this are alternate mixes or something like that, but I don't think so.

We all know the can will soon be empty, less than 5 years I think, we are already living FTD swan song period, but that is not Ernst fault, How could it be? There is an end for anything, and yet as FTD is going end of the road, we are seeing good sings of healthy live for Elvis in the mainstream legacy label, so I thinkg he's doing a good job, and maybe saving the best at last in FTD. Probably From Elvis in Memphis and On Tour will close the show.
