That is indeed some positive good news!
Elvis is among the 40 nominees for the new American Pop Music Hall Of Fame. However, a certain "king of pop" isn't?

Wow that's great!!! Just add Elvis to another Hall of Fame.
I'm really surprised Jackson didn't make it as a Jackson 5. Jackson was not a single artist in the time period they are using. I'm also surprised the Rolling Stones are not on the list too.
Love Elvis...The Greatest
RIP Tommy
Excellent news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elvis take lead in Hall of Fame voting.
From Friday, Sept. 7th……
Four days into the second round of Iconic Pop Songs (1956-1965) voting, Elvis Presley has pulled into a slight lead over the Beatles with his 1962 hit, “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
The national hall of fame attraction will be located in Canonsburg, with a location to be announced soon.
Voting this week centers on 100 songs from 1956 to 1965. Voters are asked to pick five songs that best defined that generation. Next week voters will choose from 100 songs from 1966 to 1975. The finalists will be narrowed to 20 by the Hall of Fame Selection Panel, with 10 eventually inducted into the Hall of Fame.
There’s still time to vote at americaspopmusichalloffame.org

will scorn. Where LOVE will bless the earth
and peace its paths adorn...
This type of Hall of fame means nothing.
This is the same as the Hit parade hall of fame where all you have to do was be a popular singer with some hits to get inducted.
At least with the country music, gospel music, Rockabilly, U.K. and Blues hall of fames you have to have a big influence on the genre to get inducted.
In the early years of the Rock n' roll hall of fame you usually had to have a big influence on the genre to have been inducted.
I get ya Brian.........but if he wasn't included we'd all be moaning anyway....lol

I only like 4 of the songs on that list. Elvis should win that by a landslide, but those Beatles with that catchy little wanna hold your hand ditty may bag it.
Well perhaps it doesn't but then again it means that still after nearly 60 years since "Thats Allright Mama" started his career-enought people still love his music and him to take the trouble to vote for him.
Popular singers "who last" usually are influencial-(althought some may not stay influencial for long)
I would rather see him on the list-than not listed at all-no matter the reasoning behing this type hall of fame.

Good grief, another HOF? When are we going to get the HOF for left handed musicians? Paul McCarney and Jimi Hendrix are shoe ins.
Not true. This is no different than the Grammy, Country, or Rock HOF museums. It's not some voting poll online. This is a physical multi million dollar facility being built that will rival the Rock HOF in Cleveland. Memphis has even tried to push for a Memphis Music HOF to be built in downtown but there's just not enough interest or investment to get it off ground.

Well its in the fundraising stage at this point so it could be years till its officially rivals Clevelands HOF they are now located in a cafe.http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31749_16...nces-nominees/
....The American Pop Music Hall of Fame is scheduled to open next July in a temporary home in what's now a cafe in Canonsburg, just outside Pittsburgh. Fundraising is under way for a permanent building.....
I wish them well in their fundraising activities.

It is different because as i said it has an easier criteria for singers to be inducted.
The easier something is to achieve the lesser the accomplishment.
It's more similar to the Long island music hall of fame where all you have to be is a famous musician born in Long island to be inducted.
I realize they are planning to build a buiding but that doesn't mean anything as the songwriters hall of fame (A very legit organization) doesn't have one.
I'm going to stick my neck out here and say......wouldn't something else be better than 'Cant help......' as a 'pop' song?....this is a slow love ballad

"Pop" stands for popular. And Can't Help Falling In Love was a #1 song on the pop charts, even though it only reached #2 on the Billboard charts. I do agree with you though. I would think Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog or Don't Be Cruel would have been a better suggestion.

In some things yes that is true-but to be popular to a wide variety of people for an extended time (not a flavor or the month or American Idol) is not easy to do.
The fact that you can retain popularity for longer than 3 years in any music is amazing-so I would not call that an easy thing to do.
But I see your point.
