Thread: For those who think that EPE is the good guys, read this

For those who think that EPE is the good guys, read this

This might change your opinion on the good ole boys at EPE.

    September 15th 2012
EPE 33% & NO TO FAN SNAPS - Mary Ann Mobley who
co-starred with Elvis in Girl Happy and Harem Holiday appeared
at Elvis Week this year, but there were rules and regulations to
    obey!

A well known fan spoke with Joe telling how she attended an
event where Mary was & after a conversation she asked if there
were any photos of Mary & Elvis she could buy and have her
sign? Mary replied, "I'm sorry but no I don't because I refuse to
have EPE take 33% of each one sold". This news was unreal but
    it got worse......

The next day the fan returned to Mary with her own picture for her
to sign, and she did. Then as they both posed for a photo, a voice
told them, "You can't do that"...it was an EPE official demanding
that the photo not be taken. Mary Ann Mobley then told the EPE stormtrooper that if she wanted
to have a picture taken with a fan then she will do so without their permission.

I've have never heard of this 33% demand on any signed picture sales at EPE run events, let
alone demands of EPE ruling over who gets to get pictures taken with which guest stars?

Our source is highly respected among Elvis fans so why should we doubt her claims, but I
wonder how long these rules and regulations have been policy? Have/Did you encounter any
occurrences like this? Let us know.

All I can say is that before EPE went after all the Tom Dicks and Harrys that were selling all types of Elvis related items with his likeness and name on them........anyone could use his image and Lisa got not one dime. The will said "PROTECT THE ESTATE"
Lawyers went after all the people and companies that were profiting from the image of Elvis and after years of litigations, they stopped most of the unauthorized usage.....and rightly so.
They have the right to protect thieir product-the image and likeness of Elvis Presley-of which they are only 15% owners......Apollo owns the lions share with 85%......and my friend once again your ire is aimed at only EPE with no mention of who has held controlling interest for the last 7 years.
Regardless all companies protect their interests-the John Waynes estate would do the same thing, so would the JAcksons, James Deans, MMonroe
you can not pick and choose who the rules apply to-if you make exceptions you create precedents and once you start creating precedents in legal situations you give legal footage for people to legally challlenge what you have worked so hard to secure as exclusive.

I am not going to start another thread called "For those of you who want to make EPE the bad guys" because they are neither the good guys nor the bad guys-they are a company which does correct things and incorrect things like all companies.......and to narrow it down even further....like all human beings.
Understanding why things are done in certain ways by any group or people...seeing their legal, moral or underlying reasoning is sometimes harder to do than just to label something bad or good.
To try and paint any person, group, or organization as all good or all bad is part the problem in our world today....and it just divides people.

I understand that and to me i'd say they are correct.

The way i understand it is that Mary Ann Mobley wasn't allowed to take pictures with fans or sales pictures of herself without 33% of all profits going to EPE.

If that's the case i'd tell EPE to lighten up.

Yes if Elvis's likeness or image was not a part of the situation it would seem that the photo of MAM with a fan should not be an issue that EPE would be protecting their rights.....if this account 100% is totally reliably true.
I have seen photos posted from anniversary events that did feature fans and the guests-so it is not like this has not been done before....but we have a new 85% major stockholder in the last year-so things may have been changed.....not sure.

Or I'd tell them to go to hell.

Now we know why tourism numbers are down. And it's got nothing to do with the economy.

But it was, the fan asked for a picture with Elvis and MAM. However, it is stronging it a bit to say that a fan cannot take a picture with the guests at the events.

Thats str-et-ching it just a little bit my friend, as I pointed out-we have seen other fan photos from these events, fans have even posted video on You Tube from these events......this is one account of some trouble (and since its heresay evidence...it could be true, partially true, or false)
Like I said you seem to have a grudge against them, you savor the bits of info that sheds a bad light upon EPE/Lisa....if its good news its Apollo/Core...if its negative-its the bad "15% stockholder" EPE.

Yes I understand what is alleged to have happened-and agree that if someone would not allow this fan to take a photo of with MAM that does not seem to have anything to do with protecting the likeness and image-but since we are not getting the other side of the story from this "unnamed EPE official" .......once again we are getting a negative picture with only half of the story so its hard to judge the situation is definitive terms.

But isn't that why the guests are invited-they take questions they tell stories to fans and they have a meet and greet afterwards.....and at any meet and greet I have heard of photos of the celebrities are allowed (although some charge a fee for the privilege)

If this story is true, I can understand some of EPE's problems with pictures and autographs. When you bought tickets to the conferences you were allowed to go afterwards to have the person sign autographs. While waiting in line to get your autograph they were selling pictures of that person that you could get them to sign. Like a fool, I did this one time. EPE has to pay for the building, staff and utilities so they want to be compensated for those expenses.

When I was at the 35th anniversary concert there were long lines of people waiting to meet and have their pictures taken with Joe Esposito, Sam Thompson and Jerry Schilling for free. Nobody said you couldn't do that.

But all in all I just don't know if this story totally true because I have seen some of the "guys" there before signing autographs and taking pictures with people. Nobody said anything then.

Thanks for the input-If this did happen perhaps it was some overzealous security person of a "temp employee" who did not understand the situation.
But meet and greets are all about fan pictures and autographs so this does not make sense.
80,000 people for the candlelight vigil-I would venture to say that is a success and the majority of them walked away happy. Thats the positive side.
Equal balance is helpful when debating a subject and when no balance is present someone has to add that to level the field......for every negative their is a positive..... thanks for helping to balance the field.

Exactly, it is one thing to protect the image and likeness of Elvis Presley, quite another to put the kibosh on having pictures taken with guests even if they do ask for a fee. Again though Ken, your posts / responses are always great to read.

Yes, that was King of The Whole World who said that and I believe him. We can't take anything as gospel, but there are certain members whose word is good enough for me, especially as they've attended events and not had these issues. But who knows what really happened?

    EPE

Again acting not on preserving Elvis' image or wishes. If Elvis had this kind of attitude there wouldn't be so many candid photos of him that we all can enjoy now.

Whenever they say "it's what Elvis would have wanted it", it makes me laugh cause it's all hearsay anyway and even if it is true, EPE pulls that card when it's convenient for them. That is when it's time for a new idea for them to profit off of.

This is a woman who's a part of Elvis' history and should do as she pleases.

It's looks more like they're preserving the Spirit & Memory of "The Colonel" than of Elvis'. That goes for the one's who gave over the rights to use Elvis' image as well.

Exactly. I wished another certain member would see it this way instead of always trying to protect EPE and their wrong doings. It sounds to me that EPE told Mary that she couldn't do that on their property. If it had been me, I would have stepped to the curb of the road and taken the picture then told EPE to stuff it. .

You are of course speaking of me I do not try to protect EPE I see the other side of the story-and in this case only one side was given.......its funny that MAM was singled out by EPE (or CORE the 85% stockholder that you seem to ignore in bad news situations) As has been reported other people were signing photos, taking pictures with fans and no mention of it being a no no. In the past other celebrities have had their photos taken and no problem
You have an ax to grind with EPE "its so obvious"
I do not see them as the bad guys nor the good guys but I see they have to protect their property, and I see that CORE (85% stockholder) is now in charge......I wish you would see that more often. Once again having some fun now huh kids

The people that were in the Elvis conferences went to a special room where you would take your ticket to get inside the door. That is what I did to get a few signatures, I bought the photos they were selling. That is why I say, EPE doesn't want someone standing out there for a few hours signing autographs and taking pictures when the other people probably were giving a percentage to EPE. That is not fair to the others who are paying out a percentage.

Like I said before, I have seen some of the people out there signing autographs. I don't think they stayed out there for an hour but they were signing a few with no problems.

One of the days when Lisa was there she stayed out there for an hour taking pictures and meeting with people. I know Lisa IS EPE and she wouldn't pay anything for that. I just didn’t notice any kind of you cant do that kind of stuff.

I would just like to know if there were more people that ran into problems with anything similar to this.
