Question about two images

Hi,
I need help to identify a photo. How can it be , that both pictures show Elvis with his cousin Gene Smith's in 1951 or 1952.
The boy next to Elvis is different on both images? Can someone help me please?

Perhaps the dates are just wrong, and there is, perhaps, a five year timeline between the photos.

Beaten again by KPM, they both look off. Although the first one is my vote for a photoshop.

the photos have been around for a while now. My guess is that whoever idnetified the others in the photo simply got it wrong. I'm basing that opinion on the fact that Elvis looks around the same age in each pic. I'm pretty sure I've got both these pics in one of my books and i remember thinking not the same person when i saw them.

The first one is from the internet and the second from the book "The Rough Guide to Elvis" (Paul Simpson).

It is very hard to find the dates of the pictures around. I do not understand, why make a scan and do no notes for an image.

thanks Winston, maybe the don't have any information for the pic. I lot of Elvis book with photos have no info with them. I've had a lot identified by the good folks here. The knowledge that some of people have here is amazing

Yes, I do!
And Elvis hair is identical on both. But he looks not in the same direction.
I think cousin gene is in the same age as Elvis (?).

Does anyone else think it's odd that the boy is practically sitting on Elvis' lap? He certainly doesn't look amused in that photo.

My only guess is that these photos are from a family gathering and there is more people on each side of them or if they are fake, it could have been some kind of School year book picture or prom and he was really with a girlfriend.
the best way to tell would be to find pics of Gene Smith and see if any of them look like him. The second kid looks more like Gladys than the first.

It does look like the same day but find Elvis' School yearbook photos and see if he's dressed the same in any of them.
