This is an awesome release by FTD – and if you're a fan of the movie, then yes, it's a no-brainer purchase...
There's the awesome "Frankfort Special" takes; the incredible Jordanaires on "Doin The Best I Can" (CD-2); the infectious "Shopping Around" takes - and Elvis' Dean Martin impression on "What's She Really Like" –– a plethora of great tunes all presented in a wonderful 2-CD package.
The attraction of this set is the numerous takes of the original album songs which sound better than the originals in most cases...Elvis' voice is rich, warm, and full –– and notes are hit at will on all the tunes effortlessly. Elvis channels his best voice here and in 1960 he was a force to be reckoned with –– G.I Blues followed the seminal ELVIS IS BACK and maybe there's a tendency to belittle the soundtrack material here , however just listening to this riveting collection belies that fact without doubt – it's a total joy!!
His army excursion was now firmly in the rear view mirror but Hollywood's vision of Elvis' army years was glossy and smooth and a perfect fit for his new Colonel Parker adult themed image. And it has to be said praise indeed for FTD for releasing this 2-CD gem with VOL.2 on the cards – fans are in for a special double G.I Blues treat.
Additionally the sound is stellar here and the photos in the booklet captivating; in particular Elvis and his co-stars - an highly recommended release.
