    Hi J.P.
The best and only way to really get to know Elvis as much as possible, is by listening to all of his music, watch all his movies, read all the books you can get, watch different documentaries and last, but not least....watch and listen to all the outtakes, both audio and footage, that you can possible find.....then you`ll get an ok idea of who and what he was......good luck..

You can do like Elvisia said...but don't forget one thing: when one of his song brings a smile on your face, or makes you cry, or makes you want to dance like if you were crazy, *this* is Elvis
Sure knowing a lot of facts and release dates can be cool when you're a fan but what matters more is this particuliar magic feeling IMHO...

People know him in different ways.

The best performer we will ever see in our lifetime.
A special human being in every way
It's hard NOT to imagine Elvis as perfect; how else could someone be THAT good looking, THAT talented, THAT generous & THAT charismatic

    well

He was a one in a million, its not only the music but who he was as a person. If actions speak louder than words then he was like a saint to his fans and the charitys, people and friends he supported. He gave his all and had more compation for his fellow man than any entertainer. Plus "hes got soul" to the bone, and if your any type of minority its almost like bringing people together, I cant think of any other way to describe it.
He embraced his feminine side along with his masculine in a way that endeared him to females and in turn males alike. He's the perfect man
He makes you happy and brings light to the world with his music and his example as a human being.

Elvis was, a son, a father, a husband, an actor, a guitar player a singer and many more things,

    but most of all:

    Elvis was a human being.

but thats just my opinion, i love you elvis no matter what you were!
Life is beautiful, enjoy every second of it!! And don't forget to love!!

IMO there was Elvis the image and Elvis the man. The two are totally separate from each other. When you listen to him sing his voice is so powerful and when you hear him talk its totally different quiet, kinda shy. He showed the fans his image side and a little of his true self, like his sense of humour and the way he gave to charities without making a big deal out of it. IMO he was a complicated man with an awesome voice which brought people from all over the world together, I think that's special.
You ask how long I love you, I'll tell you true,
until the Twelfth of Never, I'll still be loving you

Was a strong person with lots of ambition, unexpectedly also subtle and in a way, very modest. He was determined, competitive and diligent who’d a strong imagination and strong intuition that led him reading spiritual books.
He’d a special way of treating people for that he was most liked star by those who ever worked with him.
He was fond of glamour and beauty which he filled his life with. This might made him seem to be extremely shallow and stuck up which he never was. There’s more into it and you just have to see through the shiny cover. After all Elvis was very shy, confused and insecure of himself.
Even though he wasn’t highly educated he was bright to absorb all kind of information he was most interested in. With hard work he build a palace of knowledge on everything that was spiritual. It gave him some balance yet it was incapable to win his nervousness and dissatisfaction that drove him deeper into self-destruction habits.
Just like you and me he made mistakes never wanting to hurt anybody. His heart was too good for that. He loved everyone around him and even those who weren’t able to stick around.
He was a star but most of all he was a human being.

This pretty much explains Elvis and all of us.
Depends on whether one accepts him with all his faults and accepts him for who he was--instead of expecting him to be perfect..just because he was Elvis.

When you hear an Elvis song or watch an Elvis video/film/concert or hear him speak or see an Elvis photo and you get a warm feeling way down deep inside then that is Elvis. He was and still is the magic ingredient that gives you pleasure.
That aint tactics honey....that's just the beast in me.

Elvis was a phenomenon. One of a kind. He was flesh and bones, but he posessed a certain something that defies definition. Elvis started out poor, and rose to riches. But he never forgot his past. He had compassion on those less fortunate than he, and he never lost sight of the fact that his fans were the ones who made him famous and kept him that way! He loved life. He had a wonderful sense of humor. A terrible temper. A big heart. And a generousity that was and still is uncommon among most of the 'rich and famous'. He loved his family and friends. He was burdened with insecurities, and yet he could captivate thousands with just one song. He loved. He was loved. He was an incredible human being. Kind. Caring. And even though he was almost constantly surrounded by people, he often felt so alone. He had flaws, and at times he exhibited poor judgement. He was the epitome of masculinity....and yet he still managed to retain a boyish charm that endeared him to so many. Who was Elvis? He was a man. Blessed with an amazing talent, and extraordinary good looks. And if you are an Elvis fan....no explanation is necessary.

Daddy, I miss you more every day. You will always be my hero..
