I read somewhere that he never voted.
What do you think people? Well he did sing America the beautiful in his concerts. I personally always think that anyone is a Conservative who sings such songs so I would guess Republican. But Elvis did like to keep his political views to himself.
I read somewhere that he never voted.
Whilst Elvis believed in keeping his personal views to himself I suspect he was a Republican at heart. However, he had a lampshade at Graceland with the logo 'All The Way With LBJ' so who knows??

I think like many people Elvis was left leaning on some matters and right leaning on others. Most people are middle of the road....but thats just my opinion.
Work in Progress!
I am actually glad that Elvis never got into the political aspect of the entertainment world like Lennon and others did. They usually came away looking like hypocrite and siders. Elvis was smart to stay away from that. He did however endorse Jimmy Carter at a concert in 1976. But I have also heard that it was because of them being related too. So I guess that's acceptable.

My believe is that he was most of all about the person: Luther King, Kennedy, Carter or whoever but not so much about left or right, or as KPM said, left about some stuff right about other, which is a healthy path in which I think most people could stand.
He could have been very much into stuff like civil rights but yet against war protesters.
My understanding is that Elvis was very smart and aware of what was going on, "no wool over his eyes" so to speak, keeping his views private, although there would be private discussions with the guys.
These are Marty's views, in 2003, on what Elvis would have thought:
Elvis was pro USA but the difference between him and the Republicans,
especially the right wing, is that he cared about people who unfortunately
didn't have much in life.
He wouldn't have liked the fact that american men and women are dying
everyday in a country where we are hated, nor would he like the fact that
our wounded soldiers are having problems getting medical care back here as
is happening at Ft. Stewart, Georgia. Nor would he like the fact that
instead of the Desert Storm disabled veterans receiving Iraq's money that
was awarded to them by the courts that the US was holding, our illustrious
benevolent president took it from them to supposedly rebuild Iraq.
Halliburtom and Bechtel must need more than the one and a half billion they
are each making off this bullshit war. Elvis would have, as we all do,
fully support the troops.

Elvis was very smart to stay away - who is to say that entertainers, these days, anyway, aren't paid to support a side?
My view is that there is so much corruption in the governments, it all comes down to power and money and the people are pawns in their power struggle, as has always been the case.
It was a very smart and calculated decision to keep Elvis' political views away from the public as that would have alienated some of of his audience
Regarding Kajo's post, one must remember that a person can be conservative without being Republican. As for KPM's post. I agree that many people would find themselves in the middle.
An online "political test " poll that was surveyed a few months back showed many people found themselves to be more Libertarian in their thinking than either Republican or Democrat.
