Elvis' hair sold for $6,500 USD

On the new Discovery Channel show Final Offer tonight, Elvis' hair went for $6,500 as the final offer. One guy who didn't get the chance to make an offer said he was willing to have paid $10,000!

It was a good chunk of hair. It was in a seal container since 2004. It is from the collection of Gil (I forget his last name) that would cut Elvis' hair sometimes and he collected all the clippings because he thought someday he would be able to sell it.

Thanks Chris, I've seen individual strands on a certain site, but never a chunk I'll have to see if I can download this episode.

That's why having provenance is important, without it you have no way of knowing whether the item is the real deal, although it is still a huge risk on something like this as you really only have the sellers word. Now where are my clippings........

Correct. The provenance raises the value on an item. It's a proof of authentication.

Provenance is showing the legal trail of ownership from point A-B-C...... documentation of an items history.

But still, with an item of this nature it would still be a gamble to lay out that kind of money. Those clippings could be from anyone with black hair

Yes you are exactly correct-short of DNA strand testing against hair that Lisa or EPE would have in its vaults how could you know that someone along the way did not say "Hey John with the jet black hair-next time you get it cut save me a handful" .....or perhaps grabbed a handful off a barbers floor when they themselves got their hair cut and in a private moment-made the switch?
I know it sounds like a "hairbrained theory" but its quite possible

Back in the 50's an Elvis fan club president was on a television show and told that she had a lock of his hair. If I am not mistaken, the original owner of the bottled hair that sold for $4,000 back years ago at an auction was indeed Elvis' and was DNA proven. There was a big story online back then about it. I don't have the time nor do I feel like looking it up, but I'm sure it's on there somewhere. Feel free to look for it if you wish.

Well aware of the president she was on Groucho Marxs quiz show "You Bet Your Life". DNA proven? You are correct I will look for evidence of that because to be confirmed Lisa and her lawyers would have to agree to proven DNA from her, or that could be authenticated 100% from Elvis that had not degraded.
The estate has been approached several times by lawyers representing people claiming to be children of Elvis and never has the estate agreed to DNA testing. Even if they could get her to agree to DNA testing it would amount to nothing:
The will uses the legal term "lawful issues" for any children entitled to benefit from Elvis's estate which has been established by legal precedent to mean "children born in wedlock"
IF someone said they had a scarf they said Elvis's sweat was on-that would never be conclusive it still would have to be proven that the scarf authenticated beyond any reproach in court....so without the cooperation of Lisa I'm not sure how it could be proven beyond doubt.
But I will look just for you my friend.

Article about Elvis friend and club president Gary Peppers Elvis hair that was auctioned a few years back...in this instance it says specifically that no DNA testing was done on the hair. Gary is not the female club president from the 50s-but it is an example of no DNA testing done because the court demands the highest standards for this type evidence-and a scarf or supposed blood from a rag that Elvis used because of.... a ....bloody nose etc....would have to have proven to the courst satisfaction....that does not happen often.
The only supposed DNA testing I am aware of concerned the Elvis is Alive movement (with no involvement by Lisa or the estate) and they never proved their claim.

Searched for a quick 15 minutes-found nothing about any DNA testing on a female fan club presidents Elvis hair collection.
Ran thru 10 pages of links and all showed the Pepper story or the recent sale this thread is about.
The further I got from the 3 or 4th page of links-more links with similar words but not necessarily about Elvis's hair or this subject.
