Re: Looking For This In HQ

I got a question if anybody can help me.

Does anybody knows the date of this photo session? Some sources state it was early 1968, as promo pics for Stay Away Joe, but others state those pics where taken around June 1968, around the time of the '68 comeback special.

    Any ideas?

Sorry U.S. Male, I don't have that one in HD, but sure somebody will.

Definately promo shots for "Stay Away Joe'. A pic from the same session was used on the cover of the Singer album.

Yep, that's my guess too Cliff.

To me there was no reason at the time for the cowboy hat and Jacket if they wheren´t for Stay Away Joe. Debate came in another thread because Elvis is wearing the leather wrist bands and clock he used at the '68 Comeback. Some people said those where part of the Black Leather suit designed by Bill Bellew for the show, and so, those pics could not be from before June '68. Yet some other said those where actually from Elvis own wardrobe, and so there is no reason to believe sources that state those pics where from January '68 are wrong.

So now, do you think this other set of pics where donde at the same photo session, just a shirt change?

Anyway, anyone that could help U.S. Male with his request?

I remember seeing him wear one of the wrist bands in Stay Away Joe. I just watched that movie again the other day and boy it's one of the bad ones. It really doesn't have a plot. I watched it again because it was Elvis.

Yet he looks great in this one isn't he? such a waste of talent. Anyway this movie makes clear to me that he would have done a great job in Midnight Cowboy if Parker hadn't rejected it.

Anyway, the leather wrist band on Stay Away Joe is similar to the ones he used in '68 but not the same, that one had silver & turquoise (see minute 1:35 of the video I posted) while the '68 ones had a watch and the other it was just leather. Hmmm...

My theory is that a first set of publicity pics for SWJ was done at the time of the movie, and some extra shots where taken early '68, and those are the ones in this thread, sideburns and hair was longer now, and he was already using some other wrist bands, but yet, this where still taken before the NBS special.

Would'nt say it was one of the bad ones. To me, and I'll probably get shouted down for this, the worst one was "Charro". Just not a happy movie at all and behind Elvis' eyes, nothing. He basically walked through it.
Looking at the clip of SAJ you can definately see the old sparkle in the eyes.
By today's standards this movie would be deemed as politically incorrect by stereotyping the American Indian. But, we didn't take things too seriously in those days, including ourselves.

Yes, Elvis charisma was back in Stay Away Joe, maybe since Speedway, and then it was back on all of his latter movies, good or bad ones. And in the end regardless how good or bad the movie was, it makes a whole difference.

Somehow after '64 the charisma, that sparkle started to fade away until it was gonne, and there was nothing entertaining on the screen anymore. Then Stay Away Joe was in a way a comeback of the old fun and sexy Elvis for sure, if we think about it, GIrls Girls Girls was no better, but it was Elvis charisma what holded things together, so its all good news when the sparkle was in. Even in promotional photo shots as the ones on this thread, you can tell he was back in '67, while even in promo pics back in '65 you can tell how bored he was.
