    Did you know that Elvis....

has a cousin who plays major league baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates?

His name is Alex Presley. He's an outfielder and pretty good. Already has 5 homeruns this season. He's from Monroe, LA and went to the University of Mississippi. No telling how many relatives that Elvis still has out there.

I did not know that. Has he talked about it in an interview or where did you hear that? Is it like a 3rd or 4th cousin? That would be really cool to be some how related to Elvis. Even if you were not related to Elvis but you had the last name Presley, a lot of people would assume you were related to the one and only KING.

Isn’t there another baseball player named Elvis Andus or something like that?

They mentioned on the MLB Network that Alex is a cousin of Elvis. Probably a 4th or 5th cousin. There are many Presleys living in Tupelo today, so he's probably an offspring or something growing up in Monroe, LA.

The Pirates spokesman in an e-mail to me said Alex is not (unfortunately) any relation to Elvis.

Really? That's funny because the national network of MLB said on the air that he was a distant cousin to Elvis Presley. Maybe the Pirates"spokesperson" is not aware of that.

Also, on the answers.com, it lists him and Elvis as cousins. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_Alex_pr..._Elvis_presley

Another thing, I found out that there are two different blood lines of Presleys. One is Scottish which is Elvis', and the other is Irish which is not relation to Elvis. This would explain why there are so many Presleys throughout the nation. But the ones in the deep south who originate from Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana are mast likely related to Elvis.

Did you ever see the show, Who Do You Think You Are? It had Tim McGraw on there tracing his roots of his family and found out that his decedents came over on the same boat with Elvis' decedents. He laughed and said my relatives could have been jamming with Elvis' relatives. It makes you wonder about things for sure, how things happen. Tim became a singer and Elvis a singer and his dad Tug McGraw was a huge Elvis fan.

I do not know about the info you got-I only know I e-mailed the Pirates(which you can also do) and asked if he was in any way related to Elvis Presley, their reply short and sweet was "He is not"....its a much asked question evidently.

Thery're wrong. Or they are lying to keep crazed Elvis fans from stalking him. Here's another link to a site that includes a congrats to Alex for scoring a run on an Elvis news page. I cannot guarantee that he is indeed Elvis' relative, but will look into it since he's from down south and that's where many other Presley's related to Elvis do still live.

For those that didn't know, Elvis had another cousin (3rd) named Kirk Presley who once pitched for the NY Mets back in the mid 90's. He's from Tupelo, MS at that.

It is a known fact that practically ALL Presleys born in Tupelo are indeed related to Elvis Presley. There are some Presley's in Memphis, other part of Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas that have bloodline relations to Elvis.

Well If they are wrong, then perhaps Alex Presley is wrong........I'm sure that since he works for them they.......pro-ba-bly asked him since its an often asked question......and there is no mention of any Elvis connection on his bio at the Pirates site-nor in any news about him on the site.
The reason I e-mailed the Pirates is because upon searching his name-and asking is he related to Elvis-I could not find an answer - I did find your Wiki answers and no offense Wiki is a pretty flawed source-regular people post "their knowledge" on any topic and it can be incorrect. Thats why I tend to take it with a grain of salt.
The Pirates are in a position to know what is what-believe it or not they have day to day contact with Alex, they speak to him, communicate with him directly, and get this question all the time-not sure who answered the Wiki question-but doubt that they are in day to day contact with Alex Presley and receive that query all the time.
So unless you can contact Alex directly-I think this is a pretty definitive answer. Like I said I am just interested in getting it correct.

In Tupelo that may very well be the case........but Not all Smiths are related, not all Jones, not all Waynes, not all Jacksons etc......now if you go back to Adam and Eve I guess we are all related....

Re: Did you know that Elvis....

The name Presley is VERY uncommon. It's not the same as Thomas, Jones or Jackson. Anyone can be named Jackson and not related to Michael. But it's hard to say the same about the name Presley, especially when the origins are from the deep south like Louisiana, which is a neighboring state to Mississippi. Alex could be related and not know it. That is possible. Or, he could be related by marriage somehow and not bloodly be related to Elvis. But, that being said, the name Presley comes from his father's side. Meaning all Presley's following would be related. Unless, adopted.

Sure that is possible-but this threads premise was....Alex and Elvis were definitely cousins.....that is not the case.
As far as Vernons blood line being all Presleys from him on-thats true, but it true for my family also on my fathers side-for everyone the blood line would be related from your father on.......
That does not make all Presleys related, nor all Waingrights, nor Rockerfellers, nor Clooneys.....some names are common, some are not but even uncommon names are not all related due to the rarety.

Once again, we're just going to have to agree to disagree. I'm tired of the debating every single post that I make. Tired of it!
