New feature film 2012 based on Sonny Wests book

Another feature is set to be filmed in 2012 based on Sonny Wests recent book.
Not sure if I like the sound of the idea as described in the Billboard article.

It definitely is worth keeping an eye on as the film takes shape...

According to the article, EPE is not involved in the project and while it would be a shame to not be able to include any Elvis songs, I highly doubt EPE is going to give their clearance for this project!!

As much as I hope they get to have Elvis singing

if that's the cost of not having EPE involved and sanitizing, it's worth it.

I agree Mike........cant see them endorsing anything that has anything to do with Sonny......he's not one of the 'in crowd'

won't be the same without his music though.......

would be great to see something do him justice to a larger audience, just puts him straight into the firing line again if it's got a derogatory slant

I have to agree..... to downplay Elvis in a movie that is based on an Elvis friend and associates story-downplays the reason that it is of interest to anyone outside of the family of that associate.
I'm not sure how that will play.

Certainly an interesting point, because you know that's EXACTLY what would happen if EPE got a hold of it!!

I think that was a big failing of the last 2 part miniseries

They had the Elvis character knowing too much, being too self aware that his inaction made no sense

If Elvis had known that Parker was an illegal immigrant, I doubt he would have remained loyal because part of what he was loyal to was the image that Parker had created for himself of being a hard nose carny - if Elvis had known that that was all an act, I don't think he would have stayed with Parker through the 60's.

Sonny always seemed to have quite an ego to me and I think this newest venture of his proves my point. Downplaying Elvis in favor of himself seems the ultimate in pushing for the spotlight.
