although, I remain disappointed with the Olivia Newton-John duet track
In getting some xmas music ready for the upcoming events, i took another listen to the much debated Duets album, and i must say i kinda like em more now than at first. The Merry Christmas Baby duet with Gretchen Wilson is a stand out for me, it actually does sound like they recorded it together, also Blue Christmas was always one of my faves and it sounds great here with a nice extra reprieve of the last 8 bars. Their vocals aren't exactly synchronised at all times but it doesn't detract from things.
I'll Be Home is again nicely done and at 3:36 a lot longer than the original with a really nice instrumental added. I think Elvis's voice is slightly swamped on Here Comes Santa Claus but not bad. Santa Claus Is Back In Town is a great song and Wynonna does seem to add something which seems to make it sound even more exciting!
Silent Night for me is a little messy as Sara does do some odd alternate tune stuff but it still sounds good.White Christmas to me sounds fab with some really nice harmonies & a rather amusing sort of ad-libbed "Come on now big boy" towards the end!
Is this album going to get a spin from u guys over xmas ?![]()

it's not one that i liked much or played a lot. Masybe i should give it another go.
You should if for no other reason than the stellar remakes of The First Noel, If I Get Home On Christmas Day, and Winter Wonderland. Only Elvis vocals on those three, so if you have a problem in principle with the whole posthumously-created-duet-legacy-tampering-Elvis-unwilling-participant thing, you've got nothing to complain about here as I believe they are really well done.
I don't necessarily fall into that category. The songs just take a little getting used to like Denny said. Overall I think it's a good thing for Elvis even if every track isn't superb. The video for the Martina McBride Blue Christmas sure made the rounds and that was great exposure, exciting to watch.
...you won't forget me when I go.
I think the Christmas Duets is a very good album. However, I really do think that the producers should have had Anne Murray sing in a higher key on 'Silver Bells'. I will be playing it this Christmas.

Would a new duets release featuring more contemperary artists work [not xmas] i was thinking of people who could really contribute something to the mix. Wanda Jackson, Imelda May, Dolly, perhaps also Michael Buble, Shania Twain, would it sell if the right songs and good production values were used ?
I'm not sure if all Walmarts are selling it this cheap-but I recently got a copy for $7.00 at the local Walmart.
They had 4 different x-mas releases for sale.
