That's really cool. A killer CD in every respect. The audience response when he appears on stage is amazing. It's a wonder the wave of sound didn't knock him over.

This post also made me think how I'm surprised the original MSG show hasn't been redone yet. Lots of room for sonic improvement there.

It continues to appear on the Seasonal Albums Chart but without having a subscription to Billboard Magazine one cannot see online beyond No.25. However its sales continue to increase and as of 6th November, 2011 it had sold 455,090 copies according to Soundscan. One would have thought SONY should have pushed this one, made a display in the Retail Stores and 'shipped' a few more thousand copies, especially as it is so near an RIAA GOLD Award. But then we are talking about SONY!!!

I have seen it in Walmart for $7.00 this year-but no large display its mixed in with all the Christmas music and all the other Elvis Christmas releases.
I agree this should be pushed when its so near the Gold total. It really should not take much pushing to start with since many may have missed its release last season.

$7.00 is a good price. It's a shame it does not have a stand on its own. Talking of SONY how about this one:

'Elvis By The Presleys' (Double Album) spent 9 weeks on the Billboard 200, during this time-period the album scanned just over 200,000 copies. This figure was reached just before the 4th quarter of 2005, thus, one could imagine it sold a few copies during the holiday season too.

So how come that, to this day - 6 years later - the album has yet to be certified GOLD. Well, either it has yet to ship 250,000 (it must be very close to 250k) or it doesn't meet the criteria for a Multi-Disc Album certification. To meet the RIAA criteria, multi-disc albums are required to have a minimum running time of 100 minutes. "Elvis By The Presleys" total running time is believed to be 99minutes and 27 seconds (99:27). It makes you wonder who is minding the store!!!

You would think that Sony would have found another 33 seconds of anything-in order to meet the criteria for multi-disc albums...
By the same token it sold at multi-disc pricing-and the RIAA says "doesn't matter its short 33 seconds" its a lose lose for Elvis totals.

'An Afternoon In The Garden' drops from 156 to 176 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart for w/e 10th December, 2011.

'It's Christmas Time' drops from 78 to 116 on the Top 200 Album Chart and drops from 10 to 24 on the Catalog Album Chart.

'Elvis Christmas' drops from 96 to 107 on the Top 200 Album Chart and drops from 16 to 18 on the Catalog Album Chart. It also drops from 24 to 25 on the Holiday Album Chart.

'Blue Christmas' debuts on the 'Holiday Songs' Chart at No.21 and is No.48 on the Digital Catalog Songs chart - with 5448 downloads this week making an overall total of 399207 downloads.

Although these latest placings appear disappointing in fact the opposite is the case. 'An Afternoon In The Garden' sold 4154 copies last week and this week sold 7492 copies (the highest weekly sales tally since entering the Catalog Album Chart). 'Elvis Christmas' sold 6520 copies last week and this week sold 12,037 copies. 'Its Christmas Time' sold 8393 copies last week and this week sold 11,491 copies. During heavy sales periods e.g. Christmas, Catalog Albums will always fare less well chartwise as newer albums will take precedence with shoppers. However, sales of the Catalog Albums will also rise due to their exposure to more customers online and in store as has happened this week.

Elvis was listed as Billboard's 8th Most Successful Catalog Artist for 2011 and he had two albums in the Top 50 Most Successful Catalog Albums for 2011:

28 - 'An Afternoon In The Garden' and

    50 - 'Elvis Christmas'

Just curious does anyone have any figures for Elvis's average total holiday sales from November to January 1st?
With so many holiday titles to choose from I am curious as to the total overall sales.
