    Good News ETA Ended

International negotiators including former Irish prime minister Bertie Ahern call on armed Basque group ETA to declare a definitive end to violence.
I hope ETA (Elvis Tribute Artist) will do same and stop violance and drop the jumpsuits and stop singing with funny fake deep voice.

Oh get over yourself.....*rolls eyes* Until you walk in our shoes, and really know why we do this. Don't judge us and don't put the cart before the horse.

    Re: Good News ETA Ended

I'm sure most Elvis impersonactors act out of love and respect to the man, but in the end, a big damage to Elvis image is been done because of them, as they have perpetuated Elvis at his worst stage in life, always and overweight guy in a tacky jumpsuit that doesn't fit right because of the extra pounds. The tribute artists that do a slim, sharp Elvis going wild on stage, looking cool, sexy, and delivering a mind blowing performance are very rare, and they are not the ones installed in the collective mind.

And Elvis in his prime time (either a 50's Elvis, a '68 Elvis, or early 70's Elvis) requires talent and effort, and is not in everybody's power to deliver. Anybody can do the grotesque, unfortunate bad cartoon of anybody, plus it is cruel that that cartoon is modeled after Elvis not so great times in life. But well, if life was fair, Elvis would be alive, and impersonactors would have a sound and a career on their own.

There are a few tribute artists that I do respect and aknowledge them as there is a talent involved and a lot of work, starting by going to the gym everyday to match Elvis good looks and to know at least a bit about music, but most of the time I do find the experience: annoying, to be politically correct.

Now in the end is anybody's freedom, I do respect that, so I guess we all have our ways to remember the man, and as I say, I don't doubt that even among the worst, there is love involved as they are big fans and all, and love is too among the people who ask for them and cherish them, but as Guralnik put it: it was some kind of Careless uncritical love what killed Elvis.

They call them self ETA (Elvis Tribute Artist)
1- Are they artist. Do they really know what is artist. Even Elvis never call himself as an artist.
2- ETA says "ETA keeps Elvis memory alive" really it is in****ing Elvis. They think Elvis and his works is not enough to keep his memory alive.

I take them as I find them. If they are not insulting to Elvis' memory, then I don't have a problem.

If I want to 'watch' Elvis......I get a dvd.

If I want to 'listen to Elvis.....I get a cd.

However, unfortunately, he isn't here to give the 'live concert' experience.......and that's where an ETA comes into it.........

    Couldnt agree more...

In the city where i live, we have Elvis impersonator , which make a fool of himself, thinking he IS the king and hes NOT, it was embarassing when he sort of forced the kissing scene with ladies .. it gross... and all people who never knew elvis before would think ...that was how Elvis looked and acted... I wanted to shook them and told them " this man is not Elvis !!,..wake up !!! "

I know we have Elvis impersonators on this forum... if they do a good deed to keep his memories alive...thats fine, but please respect Elvis- he is his own and no immitation , God only made him once in this lifetime.

That summed up things for me. That's the big issue, lots and lots of people around the world, mostly younger people, do think those atrocities are what Elvis looked and was about! the ETA is so installed in the collective mind, that tons of people actually get in shock when they got to see a DVD of the real man!

Now how about that video of Johnny Cash, Roy, Jerry Lee and Mr. Perkins!!! the old Sun gang, that's what I call a tribute.
