Now I know why Graceland's attendance is down

It has nothing to do with the lack of interest in Elvis or crime around Memphis. No sirree. It has everything to do with outrageous ticket prices. I just found out that they have now raised the prices from what once was $27.00 a person to, wait for it............$45.00 a person! Talk about beating a poor man when he's down. They know good and well that we are in a recession, the second in 5 years time, and still they go and do something dirty like that. Not cool at all.

Now, I do understand that it is a business and that they have to make money to pay their employees. But that isn't the way to go by doing it nor is it going to bring more people in. What a good business would have done is give out discounts or lower prices to attract people. Think about it. Lower prices means more people thus making more money than raising prices. But what EPE has done by raising prices is exactly why our nation is falling apart economically. Corporate companies ripping off the little people.

has it gone straight from $27 to $45? That's a huge jump

Ok, obviously the price I was given is not the actual ticket price after all. Accoridng to Graceland's official site, these are the prices.

    Graceland tour-$31.00 (seniors or older)
    Students- $27.00
    Platinum tour-$35.00
    Children 7-12 $17.00 (platinum)

Although maybe not $45.00, but still way too high for this economy we're all living in. If they do ever expand and add all the new attractions they plan to do then that will only raise the prices even more to where the average person would be spending over $100.00 a visit just to take it all in.

Cheddar Cheese cost $1.00 for a half pound brick in 2008 at my local market-today it is $2.18, 80/20 hamburger was $1.99 per pound.. today its $2.99, airlines have raised their prices and also added outrageous fees for once free on board services, it is I agree aggravating for prices to jump in these hard economic times-but Graceland is not the only place doing so.

the last time i was there 2009 , i found the price a bit high¢ 31 some odd dollars , but being there and being avid fan i dare not hesitate to pay. Now looking back , i would still pay that or the new price , nothing would stop me , it`s just the way it is . I have stopped going over the last 2 years because of the impersonator thing is out of control, and i would rather put every cent in my collection with the prices of books , cd`s dvds going up and postage , and all the stuff comming out at a crazy rate i find satisfaction going there every 3 years or so .

Hey! These prices are too bad. Mind you I'm thinking in New Zealand dollars. But you have to realise they're not running a charity. There are staff to pay etc.

While I understand prices are going up on all things, not just Graceland, I do feel that if they aren't careful that Graceland's tourism will drop to an all time low and be forced to close. And do NOT be naive and gullible and think it can't or won't happen. There are concerns in Memphis that Apollo may back out of investing much into Graceland as originally planned.

And people could stop flying-and airlines could go out of business, and cheese manufacturers could go bankrupt, and cattle farms could go belly up etc....I do not see that happening on a major scale-airlines have billions invested in their operations, cheese manufacturers have huge investments and so do cattle farms-so does EPE. You know big business knows they have to ride out bad economies-they no even if it takes years their will come a time that everything returns to a normal business atmosphere. I am not naive, nor gullible but I just disagree that every single bit of negative news means Graceland is on the brink of closing.
But if that happens, it happens.
