AMARILLO '77 - Worst FTD release so far??

As a fan of Elvis in 1977, I have to say that I am disturbed by the recent reviews of the newest FTD release AMARILLO '77. Now, having said that I am a fan of Elvis' 1977 performances, I am certainly aware that not every performance (or show) from the final year of Elvis' life is going to be a good one. But, several reviews that I have read have made mention of AMARILLO '77 possibly being the worst release so far from FTD in terms of the quality of Elvis' performances.

So, I wanted to see what the fans who have gotten a chance to listen to AMARILLO '77 think about the album, in terms of Elvis' performances. (I have just received my copy of the CD but haven't had time to listen to it yet) Obviously, the sound quality will vary due to the multiple shows that the performances were taken from for the CD, so I am not really factoring the CD sound quality into the equation. I am talking STRICTLY about Elvis' performances throughout AMARILLO '77 and if they really do lend themselves to the reviews of this being one of the worst, if not THE worst, FTD releases in the catalog.

I haven't heard it to be able to give a review but from everything I have read on the net about it is that it's a bad release altogether. Elvis is said to be out of it and the audio is said to be one of the worst among FTD releases. I was never planning to get it to begin with as the final two years are not my favorite period of the 70's. However, if Ernst was able to find a soundboard of the final Indy show then I would be in line to buy it for sentimental and historical purposes.

One thing that has bothered me is that I don't get why Ernst continues to release poor '77 shows in mediocre sound when they have the much better Rapid City show in superb sound quality.

Maybe he's holding the RAPID CITY and OMAHA shows back for a "Classic Albums" release of ELVIS IN CONCERT?? Or, could we even dare hope that perhaps something bigger is in the working featuring these shows...like maybe an FTD video of the EIC footage along with a CD release??

Thanks for chiming in anyway my friend, even though you don't have the album!! Like I said, I just got my copy but haven't had time to sit down and listen to it yet.

Not yet Rick...been real busy and haven't had the quiet time to sit down and listen to it. But since I've heard so many negative reviews on it, I thought I would see what the forum members think about it just for my own curiosity!!

In my opinion it's not the worst i heard from Elvis in 1977. I Am not a fan of 1977 shows but it is a okay concert.
