Considering that Elvis valued his privacy and one of his "rules" was what happens in the group stays in the group, it seems like a pretty big betrayal that his "friends " all write books letting the public know things that we really don't even know. Was there anyone who stayed true?

Nice to hear some of the guys stayed true. I've been an Elvis music fan for years but have always avoided reading too much about him until recently and I have to say lots of what his so called friends have written is not very nice.
Bill Burk writes very postively on Elvis as well, he was a friend but not one of the inner circle living at Graceland

Going out of topic just a bit: if you want to have a positive but objective and insightful reading on Elvis life, that would be Peter Guralnick's books -"Last Train To Memphis" and "Careless Love". No he wasn't an Elvis friend, never met him, but his detailed research and personal interviews with almost anyone who lived with, befriended or worked with Elvis, makes it by far the definitive Elvis bio to date.
Ed Parker was another and the musicians and background singers.
And what about George Klein? Isnīt he a good friend?
