i was just wondering if anyone can shed some light or offer a little help im in the process of commissioning a replica of the jacket Elvis wore over his shoulders when he went to visit president Nixon ( also int he trouble sequence in the 68 special) as im a big fan of his fashion and that item in particular has always been a favourite.
However i was just wondering has anyone seen or got any pictures of the lining to have any idea what it looks like, i have heard orange paisley from some one....also if have trawled through the tcb gallery and found what i could but if anyone has any high quality pictures of this jacket from visits to Graceland etc id be extremely grateful if you'd get in touch as the more i have the more accurate it will be.

I never looked for trouble but I never ran.
In the Elvis Fashion book by Julie Mundy, you can see a little of the lining - it is orange, pink and black multi-patterned, it is on page 139 if you have the book.
Hope this helps
i dont have the book although ill defo have to look into it in the future, however any chance u could just put the photo up or pm me for my email address if u dont want to put it up publicly it would really be useful to me
and yeah i have looked on b&k site but they dont have anything any good

WHAT?!?!? Mate, B&K have absolutely the best replica Nixon suit/belt/shirt combo in the world! In fact I've heard that it is virtually identical to the original. And you can be sure that the lining is the exact same colour as Elvis'. You will be lucky to find a replica of this calibre from any other company in the world- even assuming that they offer this suit in the first place which is unlikely; because not many companies are offering a line of Elvis casual wear like B&K does.
Here is a look at the B&K replica:
As you can see, they are not just reproducing the jacket only- but they also make the trousers, the underneath Ghi jacket, the shirt and even the gold International belt (sold seperately). Trust me mate, B&K is the best.

i wasnt asking places to get it from as i already have a company that specialise in making replica clothing from pictures so thats not an issue and plus its not even going to cost me 10% of what b&k charge, im also aware of what b&k do when i said thay dont have anything good i meant pictures not clothing.
and fyi there are plenty of places out there that can make it as well if not better than b&k you'd be surprised how much they get wrong considering they have the original designs, plus i dont need the rest of the suit or the belt as i have that
so if if i can get back to the appeal for any detailed images that would be great

Sorry, the book is too big for the scanner and the small amount of lining you can see wouldnt really show up enough detail for you to make use of it.
Sorry cant be more help.
thank you so much hounddog thats brilliant.... on a different note has this book been a recent release or has it been out years as im going to have to try and find a copy
"I Just Want Them To Get The Best I Had" Elvis Presley
It's a fairly new release - 2003-ish, I got mine a couple of years back from amazon.com at a very reasonable price.
Went and looked at my copy - 2004.

What a lot of people don't realise is that the jacket Elvis wore to the Nixon meeting is the same jacket he wore in the 68 Comeback for the nightclub scene.
And another myth about this jacket which has been perpetuated by a number of Elvis biographies is that it was a cape, when in fact it was clearly a jacket which Elvis had draped over his shoulders.

I just took a look at the B & K sites, and I was thinking........If I only had a bigger Elvis room, it would be cool to have some of these suits on display.

ELVIS.....BEHIND BLUE EYES....ALWAYS THE KING...
no, the TV special has sharper corners and there's no button at the inside corner of the lapel
the suit he met Nixon in was lurid purple with a crushed velvet fabric

im sorry monk but your wrong i have done a lot of research into this jacket and they are one and the same....the purple idea came from an pretty average drama/documentary that was made, jasper is right they are the same and its obvious from the b&w pics of him meeting nixon that its black
this is a link to a clip from the film where most of the purple and cape ideas came from
"I Just Want Them To Get The Best I Had" Elvis Presley
the collars on the jackets are different - and I've read that the outfit was purple before that most excellent Elvis biopic.
just look at the piping on the collar in relation to the grommet feature - in the Nixon jacket, there's a metal circle on the collar point - there's not one in the 68 special outfit
Elvis kept his stage and person wear separate - most of the 68 special outfits were slated for being cut up in the worldwide hits box set
the black leather outfit and gospel white outfit were rescued from the to be cut up heap

the red gospel suit still exists as does the black shirt and red scarf and the denims and this particular jacket so it doesnt leave much they cut up....the reason you cant see the buttons in the 68 where as you can when it was on with nixon is because there are button holes in the lapel and in one he has the buttons through them and in the other he doesnt. As for elvis keeping his stage and personal wear separate that rubbish as under the jacket when he went to see nixon was a cosack suit which he wore on stage in 69 also the gold belt he wore on stage as well....no end of elvis personal items ended up on stage the penguin suit is a perfect example...and finally the jacket WAS black just look at the black and white pictures the jacket is exactly the same tone as the cosack underneath which was black if it was purple then it would be slightly lighter more grey.
if you still think its two jackets then u cant admit when ur incorrect but with out a shadow of a doubt it was the same item
heres a link to a pic ive jsut found where can see the lining and if you match it to the one above you can see they are the same http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/nsa/elv...es/5364-14.jpg

That extra metal circle on the Nixon jacket is easily explained- it was just one of a number of small lapel pins which Elvis often wore- particularly around this time. He also had some which were in the shape of small American flags, and he wore one of these at the court when he divorced Priscilla.
Look closely at all these pics and you will see he is wearing different lapel pins in all of them:

Well, if I were wrong, I'd admit it, but I am not:
http://www.elvis.com.au/presley/tell...itehouse.shtml
In about an hour, through the OMB security office of the Oval Executive Office building I get a call saying that 'Elvis Presley is here with his two bodyguards'. And they came down the hall to my office and he really was Elvis Presley, dressed in a purple jumpsuit and a white shirt open to the navel with a big gold chain and thick-rimmed sunglasses. And he came in and I must say, I was very impressed with him. I had been a big fan of his during the 1950s. He proceeded to tell me about how much he felt for his country. He wanted to help the country, to do what he could. He felt he had an obligation because he'd been given so much. He talked about serving in the military, and felt that that was his duty.

Around noon, Elvis arrived at the White House with Schilling and bodyguard Sonny West, who'd just arrived from Memphis. Arrayed in a purple velvet suit with a huge gold belt buckle and amber sunglasses, Elvis came bearing a gift—a Colt .45 pistol mounted in a display case that Elvis had plucked off the wall of his Los Angeles mansion.
