ELVIS SINGS GUITAR MAN

ELVIS SINGS GUITAR MAN is a concept album created by the Follow That Dream (FTD) Collector's Label. With Elvis' musical career on the decline after spending a majority of the 1960's recording movie soundtracks, Elvis stepped into the recording studio in May, 1966 to record new material for his upcoming gospel album "How Great Thou Art." Along with those gospel songs, Elvis also recorded several secular songs. Unfortunately a majority of those songs either performed poorly on the music charts or were buried as bonus songs on movie soundtracks. In September, 1967, Elvis returned to the recording studio to lay down some new, non-soundtrack material. Although the music recorded during those sessions again did not perform well on the music charts, the songs themselves were much stronger than anything Elvis had recorded in a long time, and remain some of his best known songs over 30 years later. ELVIS SINGS GUITAR MAN is an insight into those non-soundtrack recording sessions of 1966 & 1967 to provide fans an album that should have been.

A really nice and very creative release from FTD. It shows us the kind of awesome music Elvis could still do outside of the movie soundtracks. Great sound and a very enjoyable release. Many of these songs were placed as "extras" or "bonus" songs on movie soundtracks. What a pity. RCA and Col Parker should released studio albums such as this in the mid-to-late 60s. A must have from FTD, IMHO.
