    do we need impersonators?

for years as a ELVIS PRESLEY fan i have wondered how some so called fans of the real thing can see themselves supporting these guys. I was told by many of these impersonators if it wasn't for them ELVIS memory would have died long ago and intrest in him /GRACELAND etc ... would have also. I have to admit that i'm satisfied with the memories ELVIS PRESLEY left me with and i'm content collecting the cd's , books, photosdvds etc.. I just find that they cheapen his memory and use this as an excuse.

There are a few exceptions(like a 2%) that could be called a tribute act. Those are OK, although I don't care much about them.

But for the most part (the other 98%) are a disgrace and to me they are nothing but a shame to Elvis legacy and to most of us fans.

I do understand that some of this people are good intentions, but in the end they are just hurting Elvis legacy, end of story.

You know if they didn't walk around with the "thank you very much" and just dressed in there own clothing and ditch the tacky jumpsuit's I would have a respect for them, honoring Elvis' music, instead, they are making fun of his image and IMO honestly believe they are a big part of why young people think of Elvis as a joke.

Elvis impersonators serve to remind us that you can put a man in the same jumpsuit with the same haircut and have him sing the same songs but it doesn't mean that he will even come close to reproducing the extraordinary force of nature that was Elvis Presley.

you make a point there i don't want to generalize but most of them make me wonder is that really the meaning of their lives pretending to be someone else? to me it just doesn't make sense. i know there are men with great voices but why to use it for something like that? i think it's a plain waste.... sorry folks....

I agree too Teddy. Maybe impersonators are exciting to those who have never seen Elvis in person but they don't realize that they still have no idea what they've missed.

This topic is like beating a dead horse...Some people like us and some hate us. But like i tell people I put Elvis first on and off stage and I put his fans first. So I think this topic is just like beating a dead horse.

As a teacher, I have portayed E for an after-school reading program a couple times a year. I have 5th and 6th graders singing Elvis songs and asking questions about him. I'm quite sure they wouldn't be doing that if they hadn't seen me. They think its cool and they're getting some info on the man they wouldn't get otherwise.

I don't have a problem with it at all.
