Thanks Jungle! I saw yours of the MSG album and it was AWESOME!!!
Hey Mike!, well I tend to believe that the most probable way in which Sony will celebrate the 40th annyversary of MSG gigs would be via those "Legacy: Two albums in one". After all, it was celebrating the 40th annyversary of the American Sessions that the double CD: "From Elvis in Memphis/Back in Memphis" was released; and it was succesful enough that it started a trend followed by "On Stage/In Person" and "Elvis is Back/Something...".
Most likely, the original As Recorded Live at the MSG" '72 album with '72 singles (Burning Love, Always on My Mind, Separate Ways, Until its Time..) as bonus tracks and with the "An Afternoon in The Garden as the bonus CD (with some other '72 singles), would be what we are going to get. And is not bad!!! although YES, for us fans, a handsome box set would be much more welcome.
I agree, the '56 albums plus singles, are a given, and most likely, before that MSG release, maybe around Nov. this year?
Yes, it is interesting to think what other original albums might be given the "Legacy Double album release". I think its important to have the original Elvis catalogue available and in a handsome way. But agree with you, not all Elvis albums can be considered.
The original '68 Elvis NBC's TV special is a great candidate, but the wonderful box set release of that is still fresh and available, so we can forget it. Same with the 3cd set of "TTWII" although its almost a decade old now... so chances are a new release in the Legacy labe could be considered.
The 3 gospel albums are strong enough to be considered at one point to be released that way. Maybe "How Great Thou Art/His Hand in Mine" with YouŽll Never Walk Alone, We Call on Him, as bonus on the first one, and "Crying in The Chapel and the '57 gospel EP as bonus on the first one?
"Elvis Country: 10,000 years old" does need to be released on the Legacy series, but paired with? Love Letters does not deserves to be released that way, "He Touched Me", although gospel, its kind of in the same mood as "Elvis Country", nashville sound, roots oriented music, that's what I though of it as a good pairing. Those two albums, one a grammy awarded, and "Elvis Country" a critically aclaimed one, are always left behind, they need to be given a better treatment, this legacy deal would be a decent one.
About the movies: King Creole (with some '58-'59 singles as bonus) paired with Loving You, (Jailhouse Rock as bonus) might be strong enough to have the legacy treatment at one point. Same for "G.I. Blues/Blue Hawaii", althoug these last two have already recieved a crappy rerelease last year, and it sucks.
Aloha from Hawaii with the rehearsal show as a bonus, could also be considered for a Legacy release, but a new mix is most needed, Aloha has always suffered from a lousy mix, no matter if it comes from the new remasters, it just do not sound right.
P.S. Despite being Gretest Hits releases, I think there is a solid argument to consider "Elvis Golden Records" and "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't be Wrong: Elvis Gold Records Vol.2" classic albums, and should be given a proper release via the "Legacy" label. A 5cd box set containing all 5 Golden Records Volumes each with bonus tracks would be a killer, hmmmm.... but maybe this me already thinking as a fan and not thinking for a mainstream release.

Right...I should have expanded on my original thought! Sorry about that...
I meant to suggest that the original MSG and afternoon MSG shows would be expanded on with the singles recorded around the same time. Left that part out...![]()
Exactly right...but Sony has to be careful and not release too many of these "Legacy Edition" releases, or it will simply water down the whole concept behind the original idea. Unfortunately, knowing how Sony is, since the first "Legacy Edition" releases have been a success, they'll continue to try and capitalize on the idea by continuing to release them...thus once again beating the idea to death.
In regards to the '68 Special, I thought about that album but what other album would they pair it with?? Same for TTWII...although of the two, you're right that TTWII would be the most likely to see a "Legacy Edition" release first.
That's a tough one...I agree both albums need to be considered, but I don't know about pairing them together...but you're right, I don't know what other album ELVIS COUNTRY could be paired with except maybe TTWII only because they were recorded at the same time. But again, that seems like an odd pairing to me too.
I think Sony would be wise to skip releasing any of the soundtracks in the "Legacy Edition" series simply to avoid the whole watered down theory I mentioned above. While the soundtracks you mentioned are clearly the most worthy candidates, I just feel that the soundtracks should not be considered for this series. Just my personal opinion though...
I would suspect this would be the most likely idea for the 40th anniversary of the ALOHA show in 2013.
Yeah, I could see ELVIS' GOLDEN RECORDS and GOLD RECORDS VOL. 2 being released in the series simply because they are such legendary albums, despite being greatest hits compilations. I think anyone who EVER liked Elvis in any way has ELVIS GOLDEN RECORDS in some format and who hasn't seen the infamous cover for VOL. 2?? As long as Sony only released these 2 albums, and not tried to do something with volumes 3, 4 and 5...again to avoid watering the product down with albums that aren't as strong. Although I do like your idea for the 5-CD GOLD RECORDS box set...that would be kind of neat, if done properly.

Yes I do agree with that. This Legacy remasters/rereleases are the best way to deliver just top quality Presley to a new generation, its a great way to boost Elvis image without changing anything, but just putting in front of everything the good stuff.
The NBC original album its a great candidate for this kind of release if we forget of the recent box set. I think, as our idea of the MSG original album paired with the Afternoon concert, instead of pairing it with another album, I'll add Tiger Man (the original 8pm sit down concert) as the bonus CD2. Bonus tracks on CD1 could be the singles: If I Can Dream (single version)/Edge of Reality, Memories (stereo version), and the left out tracks: A Little Less Conversation, Let Your Self Go, It Hurts Me (instrumental stuff), Don't Be Cruel & Blue Suede Shoes from the stand up concert. (Or restore those tracks in the original Medley and concert portion?)
TTWII, I guess I'll do the same, pair it with a full Aug '70 concert. Singles and rehearsals as bonus. Although this is too much as the 2000 deluxe 3cd edition of it. Hmmm... this is not easy but I'll kill for having this job LOL.
Yes, TTWII and Elvis Country are related as they where recorded at the same sessions, but they are too different in sound and concept to be joined in the same release to my ears. Somehow, Elvis is Back! and Something for Everybody, are not related in time, but in sound and concept, they are almost twin brothers, so it made sense to join them.
Yes, I agree. I just don't consider King Creole and Loving You as a soundtrack, but part of Elvis classic catalogue, top stuff to me, but yes, they are soundtracks, maybe another via could be considered to bring back to the catalogue the good small portion of the soundtracks that are actually good stuff.
The cover of Vol.2 shoud have a monument bigger than the sun lol Its the greatest cover in rock history! and the music in there its just fantastic! I would definetively release 50,000,000 Can't be Wrong, Golden Records Vol.2 in the Legacy series backed with Vol.1. Why not the other way? just because the cover lol.

Have a Great Week!

The only problem with this idea is that TIGER MAN isn't an album released during Elvis' lifetime, so I don't know if it would be a candidate for a release in the "Legacy Edition" series. I believe they are just sticking with the original albums released during his lifetime??
But, if the series is open to any Elvis album, then your idea makes the most sense and would make an excellent release for sure!!
Same reply as above...unfortunately no full 1970 shows came out during his lifetime, but if any album is usable for the series, then again, this would be the best way to go here!!
That was my main thought on this as well...too different sounding to be coupled together.
Can't argue with any of that for sure!!!

Yes I know what you mean, but then, if only original albums are going to be released in this Legacy Edition series, no An Afternoon In The Garden would be released as Bonus Cd for the Original As Recorded At Madison Square Garden.
I guess they won't be called An Afternoon, or Tiger Man, but just, bonus concert as bonus CD for an original album?
Hmmm... now you got me thinking if they actually will be releasing the MSG live album on the legacy series.
Maybe, original MSG album, backed with original Aloha From Hawaii album?
I am guessing that they will not release MSG as part of the "Legacy Edition" series but just as a stand alone release to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the show. If they do that, then of course adding AFTERNOON as the second CD would be the most logical choice.
I don't see that happening, especially since the ALOHA show is such a historical album on its own. At this point, unless Sony decides to include albums that weren't released during Elvis' lifetime as part of the "Legacy Edition" series, then I just don't see how MSG or ALOHA could get released in that series...there doesn't really seem to be anything logical to include as the second CD.

I'm now thinking that they will do the MSG shows (both of them) for the Legacy Edition so that it gives them the leverage to release either the Hapton Roads show on a single mainstream release or a double live cd set of the On Tour material. Preferably the April 9, Hampton and April 10 Richmond shows. Those two concerts are the only ones remaining that have yet to be released in their entirety on the import level. I'm also thinking now that we'll get something to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the on tour documentary and/or the shows themselves.
Here's a couple of my latest creations. One is the long overdue album Elvis On Tour that would be a double live set and the other is a new album of tracks from 1968 and 1969.
