Walk a mile in his shoes...

I often have wondered how would it been like if I was Elvis. How would I see the world, how would I walked it through the way he did.
It?s almost impossible thought I?d have made it.
However those first years of his fame would go pretty much the same way (take into consideration that I?m a woman).
I?m sure it would been it.
My head wouldn?t have coped with it all and I had broken down after a few years, no matter how much I?d love music and singing.

What about you? If you walked a mile in his shoes, (incapable change circumstances from his), how would it be like? How would you cope with it?

Well....knowing myself, I probably would have said "***** it all" sometime in '75 or '76 and bought me a private island somewhere, bringing only Vernon, Lisa, and the cook!
...you're moving on the back roads, by the rivers of my memory and for hours you're just gentle on my mind.

lol Not a bad answer, but I was trying to point out if you weren't capable to change any of the circumstances

In that case...I probably would have coped the exact same way he did.
If you want the truth, millions are doing it every day with their antidepressants, muscle relaxers, pain meds, etc. No difference except he was "The King".

    Great question, Desiree.

As I haven't had the opportunity to be in Elvis' position, I can say I would have difficulties knowing my reaction.

However, I do know how I cope with day to day life, and sometimes, boy it is difficult, so to multiply that by 1000's..........not good!

Yes, the good times would have been fantastic, but it isn't all that. There are responsibilities for a large number of people's income, oohhh soooo many things!

However, with all the help available to celebrities today, it is interesting to note how such a large proportion of them don't cope, as well as Elvis did cope himself. So many of these celebrities are on drugs, and or addicted to alcohol, have melt downs, etc. Sad. Then there are some of the children of the celebrities, who are down and out, to the extreme. So Lisa, in my opinion, has turned out to be a very special woman.

I've always said, that I respect Elvis, he coped better than most could possibly have coped, he didn't have any help, and he was one of the first.

I can only admire and love him.

    Hugs,
    Kimmi

If I were Elvis I'd be dead after That's All Right was released, I can't handle fame very well I think.

If I was Elvis I would have not stayed in Graceland all the time. I hate staying in for a day I cant imagine staying in for a week. I would spend the money like he did and I def would have had a lot of women around like he did. What a life. Also performing in front of people must have been great to do. Oh yeah and def no drugs.
"When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was a hero in the movie. So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times. I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend; without a song. So I keep singing a song." - Elvis Presley

    A good question D!
Probably the way he did- plus that I had lost my faith in everybody near me under those circumstances.

Will ya pls tell me how could you - as a woman - walk a mile in HIS shoes?

I said I couldn't have although I don't believe it has nothing to do with being a woman! Oops getting off topic now...

it took me over 3,5 yrs to get back with an answer here well it needs to be a good one. women can cope with complicated things much better than men. they take care of things very differently to men. is that a good one? if not give me 3 more yrs. maybe i'll comeback wiser

If I were Elvis? I'd have to take the good things - like staying grounded by going home, nothing like the folks at home to remind you of what you were back when. I'd probably have done the drugs - gotta sleep, and gotta wake up to do those back to back shows.
But I definitely would have traveled more - I'd have gone to Europe, Japan, and Australia and anywhere else that wanted to see me...

Just pretend, I'm holding you, and whispering things soft and low.
And think of me, how it's gonna be and just pretend I didn't go

That would have been the smart move. For his career and his health. I agree 100%

Hi GF I've asked this question to myself in the past and always came up with the same answer, I couldn't have walked in his shoes for 5 mins never mind the length of time he did. This is how I would have felt walking in Elvis shoes.............. For me everything was just too big for a human being to cope with. I couldn't have coped with being looked at and labelled with so many different names and having such high expectations of me constantly. I couldn't have coped with having an image that was so big cos it would haved crushed me, I wouldn't have been able to breathe. I would have hated having other people critisize me and my life saying that I should have done this or I did this cos I thought a certain way, cos those people aren't walking in my shoes. I would have been so lonely, I always felt that he was searching and I know that in his shoes I would have been searching too, searching to find the meaning in my life, why this life was given to me and searching for someone to love me just for me. I couldn't have gotten over the stagefright like he did I would have stayed hidden behind the curtain gol so I wouldn't have made a very good Elvis but then again I don't have to be, I'm lucky cos I can be me, no big name and status, just me a human being with feelings and I often think people forgot Elvis was that too a human being with feelings, he was never an image or an object to me cos I could always see the man with his feelings and thoughts, a voice that touched my heart and soul and man he had the best laughter, I loved to hear him laugh, sorry D gone off topic ooops.

My opinion here is based on me and what I think cos I don't know how it was like to walk in Elvis shoes cos I never did it. I can just comment on how I saw him and what I felt inside.

Me Being Me I Would Of Loved Being Him, Upto TTWII Anyway Where He Still Enjoyed Doing What He Loved Doing,
Entertaining His Fans, But Saying That The 'Movie Period' Probably Tipped Me Over The Edge.

Great question! I've always wondered how I would handle the tremendous fame that Elvis had, I probably would have gone down the same path, with a few exceptions as far as some of the movies and touring outside the US. But as I see it Elvis did in 42 years what most entertainers won't achieve in there entire career! To be such a famous icon would be tremendous pressure, every song or move you make under constant supervision. In the end Elvis was human and had a big heart, it's a shame so many smothered him. I think I would have given up in half the time! You did good Elvis!! Long live the King! TCB....

I don't take being shoved around easily so I think I would have rebelled long before I went into the army...the Colonel for one would have been long gone and most of the "Mafia".

" Must be hard being a King.." quote from Forrest Gump..

I dont think I can do it , its tough not having freedom to be youself in public, I know i'd be so happy making tons of money, but i'd rather be happy than being rich and lonely. I guess thats the reasons why Elvis often asks himself or God why him ? why God choose him to be Elvis.

If i could change some thing about Elvis,... which i cant ... probably dealling with drugs, and listens more to friends who wanted him to sober .

you know what ? I missed Elvis, I often the one who wonder if he would have been alive , what difference the life would be ? the music he would have made ? would he still wear jumpsuits or not ? would he still as famous ? what kind of movies he would have starred ? etc.
