It is souless music. Anyone with half a brain understands the difference between Elvis' achievements and what Glee has done.
'Glee' Sets Yet Another Record; Over 100 Singles Charted
Photo Courtesy - 20th Century Fox(NEW YORK) -- This week, the cast of Glee became only the second act in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have at least 100 singles appear on that chart. Elvis Presley is number one, with 108 singles, while the Glee cast has just passed the 102 mark. All 102 songs have charted in the past year-and-a half.
The new songs that helped the Glee cast reach the milestone were the five new entries from last week's episode, including "Dog Days Are Over" and "(I've Had) The Time of My Life."
The Glee cast also has two albums in the top five on the Billboard album chart: Glee: The Music -- The Christmas Album and Glee: The Music: Season Two -- Volume 4.

It seems to me that everyone and his dog is trying to beat Elvis' chart records in the U.S.A. Glee - 102 charted singles in a year and a half. Madness. Elvis didn't have a single released each week and a TV show to promote it.

Besides, realistically, Elvis has had 151 songs chart on the Hot 100. I doubt that record is approached for a very long time. At least not in my lifetime.
Well, there's still one Elvis and a dozen kids on Glee
given the different economic situation, different distribution, different attitude towards buying music - it's not really correct to compare sales pre-internet to post-internet.
It was a lot more impressive when teens had less money and had to chose what they spent it on, and make a certain amount of effort (ie off your butt and to the store with you), than now, being on your butt and downloading at home whatever is your whim or fancy for the day.
much like comparing Beatles popularity to Elvis was also dubious, when again, 1 Elvis and 4 Beatles to pick from as your fave.

I hate that Glee concept. Although many times the music sounds fun (not weird, because they're covering songs that already proved themselves over the years), but it's production music... music with no soul.
But on the other hand, it's a cool thing that Elvis always be the man to beat. He's the champion of champions, the Icon of Icons, the King..... they are few people like him, but every branch has 'their' Elvis: Michael Schumacher in Formula 1, Michael Jordan in basketball, Babe Ruth in baseball, Ali in boxing, and so on....
It saddens me when one of Elvis' records is broken by someone. But the upside is that this doesn't diminish his legacy.

Albert i agree with you, Elvis will always be my number one.
Who cares about Glee anyway? BTW: What a silly name.
Elvis tried out for the Glee club in high school, but he didn't make the cut.

I agree 100% with your assessment my friend!!
It really can't be a matter of comparing Elvis to Glee strictly in terms of today's standards....it's just not the same. Personally, the Glee songs benefit from today's technology whereas Elvis' songs didn't have those "luxuries", which makes Elvis' accomplishments all that more impressive!!
Basically, if Elvis and Glee's accomplishments were on equal footing, Elvis would BLOW Glee off the map...PERIOD!!!!

I couldn't agree more rocknroll!!! But then again, a majority of the music released today can hardly be defined as "music"...to me, it's merely "noise" with a LOT of studio tricks!! Heck, you don't even need to be a good singer anymore to be a recording star....just warble some words into a mixing machine and add some studio tricks and BAM...a hit record!!
In my opinion, that only makes the accomplishments that Elvis achieved that much more impressive!!

monk so nice said. Thank you.
I think it is unfair to compare and Glee I dont really think of as music they arent doing own thing or orginal. Elvis was original.
Haha that is funny Jungleroom how you say they went into hiding. I would.![]()
By the way, nowadays most of the sales that are used for the charts are measured by internet sales (like in iTunes). It's not fair to compare the sales of singles like Heartbreak Hote, The Yellow Submarine or Thriller, with a $1 click-and-buy purchase. With all vinyl- and CD singles, the prices were much higher and you had to put some effort into buying them. AND to release them. It's an expensive project to release singles in vinyl or cd format. You had to distribute them over countries, had to adjust the layout on the covers (like different languages), the distribution costs and risks and the need to continuously persuade resellers to take your singles into their weekly assortment of records and singles.
With the digital format, companies only have to make deals with iTunes and Amazon and they can deliver their singles to all customers in the world. No risk of bad-sales, left-in-stocks, damaged goods, difficult resellers, and so on.

The cast of "Glee" are made up of many individuals, I do not see this as in the same league as solo artist "Elvis Presley" and I think anyone with any real sense will not see the cast of Glee as comparible to Elvis.
Plus when Elvis hit the charts it was mainly based on sales-today its based on requests, airplay and then sales. Elvis had the number 1 selling single in the US with ALLC for a few weeks when it was a hit, but it did not hit the number one spot on the Hot 100 because it did not get sufficient airplay and requests.

Work in Progress!
If Elvis was still here it wouldnt be a contest. He would still pack arenas, sell merchandise and albums all in his own right. The man truly set the standard......
I'm the king of the jungle, they call me Tiger Man. If you cross my path, you take your own life in your hands.
plus, the Glee cast is doing cover versions of songs that have already charted.
