It's all bogus, anyway. In a rational universe there'd be no way that the likes of Mr Brooks, or Britney, or whoever -- regardless of merit -- would be anywhere NEAR Elvis in terms of sales. The RIAA's approach to such awards is deeply, deeply flawed and has been for a long time. many artists, most definitely including Elvis, never got the credit due in this respect. Today's performers, on the other hand, get full credit for everything, which explains why you hear that some git who's the flavor of the month and really DOES prove to be a flash in the pan has just broken records set by Elvis, the Beatles, or whoever.
RIAA sucks, anyway, with their greedy ways; lobbyists serving the needs of corporate fatcats, including the top rung of the record industry's 'suits' while faking concern for the welfare of the actual performers, about whom they care not a bit. Bleh. I'd say that some things never change -- performers have usually had the short end of the stick -- but the fact is that, with the situation of late such that the corporate overlords don't even bother hiding the fact that they really run things (and own most of our alleged representatives in DC), it's actually gotten worse and worse...
