If I were getting one for Christmas, I would want the 3 cd Thats The Way It Is.

PITTSBURGH '76 is quite possibly Elvis' greatest ever concert and it is one of my most listened to bootleg concerts. He is in a great mood and the concert is one of the longest of his career.
However, I would recommend that you get at least 2 Cds of any mid-late 70s Las Vegas concert. Elvis' mood was often dramatically different in Vegas and the shows were always very unpredictable. It was probably the fact that he was beginning to HATE playing Las Vegas and the fact that the audience was made up of mostly gamblers, high-rollers ie non-Elvis fans.

A Good start would be NIGHT FEVER IN VEGAS- AUG 30 1974 show= Elvis gives one of his Karate speeches and this concert is notable for him saying "F*ck you" to someone in the audience.

Another bizarre show is CLOSING NIGHT- SEP 1973= well where do I start with this one???
--First of all, he sings the lyrics of Bridge Over Troubled Water to the tune of Suspicious Minds
--During Love Me Tender, he insert a verse telling the Hilton hotel to "go to hell"
--He talks about a waiter who lost his job and commands the Hilton management to reinstate said job
--And he gives one of the most unusual versions of Softly As I leave You as it is a stark and haunting spoken version.

I love listening to the Vegas shows of this period as Elvis was opening up a lot more to the people with his thoughts, philosophies on life and just displaying some magnificent temper tantrums, some amazing singing and some very unusual song choices. These shows were much more experimental than his touring shows and it's so great everything was recorded for us to enjoy and study all these years later!
