    FOOL FTD – quick review

The latest FTD release –– FOOL is a very interesting 2-CD, with repeated plays it gets better and better. The original album was a half-baked affair with many songs originally planned for the album shelved, here FTD add the extra cuts expanding it to a 2-CD version which sounds all the better for it.

Standouts include: “Steamroller Blues” – the best sounding mix of this great blues powerhouse that I’ve heard! Furthermore the Hawaiian songs sound smooth adding more pleasure to the release.

Disc Two – this is where the Gold is – great outtakes of “Padre” with wonderful glockenspiel. “Love Me, Love The Life I Lead” sounds fantastic in all its different takes.
“My Way” really is standard but the piece de resistance is the Bob Dylan jam –– “Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right” (take 2) –– a great sing-a-long number with added harmonica fills not present in the NOW FTD take-1 version.

To sum up there’s a great deal here to enjoy with repeated spins – enjoy!

Playing This Right Now, and have to say its wonderful disc 2 is good fun, esp doing 'until it's time for you to go'
(take 6) and what a great take 'love me love the life i lead' (take 5,6) love this, 'Don't think twice' (jam #2 )is
    over 11 minutes long,
and got to say it's one of the better FTD Releases, i'm a sucker for these out-takes.

    This is a substandard release.
On CD1 there are 3 so called different mixes of "Fool" but they are 99% identical. Of course it's easier to release the same take 3 times than giving us unreleased takes. Thanks Ernst, you did it again...
On CD2 takes 2 and 11 of "Padre" are 100% identical, they are the same takes. Exactly the same one. Ernst,do you think that we are stupid? Was it intentional? Or was it just another clumsy error?

It's easy to pick out the negative but it's a lot better to enjoy the positive aspects of the FOOL release.

Ernst is switched on and sharp

His savvy vision is why we're enjoying all the FTDs – what do you think of the vinyl FTDs?

I hope FOOL is released on vinyl –– that's a no brainer if you're a vinyl fan...

November FTD Release news: FTD have announced that due to a manufacturing error on the new Classic Album 'Elvis (Fool)' - "It is our intention to issue replacement discs for Disc 2 ASAP. FTD sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused". This is due to a track duplication on the Classic Album 'ELVIS (Fool)' Disc 2.
Ask your FTD dealers about this replacement if you already have your copy, or copy ordered.

I just read that on ElvisNews.com also Sonny, so that must explain Danny's comment that PADRE takes 2 & 11 are identical??

Glad you liked it so much my friend!! I haven't received my copy yet, but I am anxious to get it since it's one of my favorite albums despite the hodge-podge feel of the original album.

Nice to know they're making good on this error...a shame it was made in the first place though.

Buying every FTD is not feasible for me unfortunately but this is one release I think I'll need to pick up sometime soon. I'm a sucker for these studio outtakes too and am a fan of the original release even if it is a hodgepodge.
...you won't forget me when I go.

Thanks Mike, it's always great to read your comments – there's definitely a great deal to discover on the FOOL FTD.

All the "Love Me,Love The Life I Lead" takes sound great with nice bass and organ sounds. Plus "Padre" even sounds good to me (takes 1-2), with the glockenspiel intro.

    Much to enjoy my friend

    Cheers,

    My boy
