    Re: Vote For Elvis

Ahhhhh..... I don't want to vote anymore... forcing myself to vote for Elvis in a poll (often on a unknown site) becomes harder and harder. And why should we vote? Elvis legacy, records and influence on society are facts and unmatched. Online polls are merely tools to draw visitors and don't talk about facts.

Among youngsters, artists like Bieber, Gaga and Timberlake are way more popular than Elvis. I think that among people younger than 30 Michael Jackson is also more popular, since his music was more like the music that's played on music stations nowadays.

Elvis' LP's sold very poorly compared with records released in the 70s, 80s and 90s. A particular 1991 album from Billy Ray Cyrus sold more than The Aloha From Hawaii. Even albums from The Spice Girls, Ace of Base, Guns 'n Roses, Backstreet Boys, Bee Gees, Shania Twain and Cher sold millions more than Elvis' best selling album.

But that doesn't make Elvis not an icon. Same goes for the Beach Boys (only their compilation albums sold millions), Frank Sinatra (only his two duets albums sold more than a million), or Bing Crosby (who apparently never had a million times selling album).

Marketing nowadays is better, it's easier to get music, there are bigger and more music oriented venues to perform and there's more money among the target groups to buy music and so on. So what's the point? Despite all these differences between eras, artists like Elvis, Frank, the Beach Boys or even the Beatles remain their titles as icons. They had a huge impact on culture, society and the sound of a generation. No result of a poll can change that.

Fair enough - don't vote. I love polls and believe it keeps Elvis' name in people's minds.

Yes, that's true. That part of me is the one who also still votes. I have to admit it depends on the size and status of the particular website
