I have to say My Boy that you are 100% right....HIGH SIERRA is a GREAT release!!!

I've had my copy for a couple of weeks now, but just today finally had time to sit down and listen to it. As everyone knows, 1974 was a very up and down year for Elvis in terms of the quality of his concerts and I am always skeptical listening to a 1974 show for the first time just because I know that it was such a turbulent year for Elvis' stage show. But listening to HIGH SIERRA, there is NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER that Elvis commands the stage like no other performer before him or since him!! HIGH SIERRA is just a FANTASTIC show from beginning to end and anyone who hasn't had a chance to pick up a copy of this CD yet needs to...it's THAT good (in my opinion, of course)!!

Beautiful versions of WHY ME LORD, HELP ME, BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER and THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE are immediate highlights. Despite a bit of goofing around at the beginning of the song, Elvis also turns in a FANTASTIC rendition of YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME, a rarity for a 1974 show. Yes, there are the throwaway songs -- ALL SHOOK UP and HOUND DOG -- but for the most part, Elvis turns in a solid performance on every song...even CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE is delivered a little more solidly than usual.

As for the bonus tracks, they are fine performances overall but one of the highlights has to be SPANISH EYES (a song which I am not overly fond of personally)...it's just such a GREAT performance with Sherill Nielsen more or less dueting with Elvis on the song. Another concert favorite, I'M LEAVIN', also gets a superb reading from Elvis on HIGH SIERRA as well!!

The sound quality throughout the show and the bonus tracks are definitely above average for a soundboard recording, only further enhancing the listening enjoyment of HIGH SIERRA. Finally, I have to applaud FTD for the mini-booklet that they included with this release. While it isn't a very big booklet and the pictures could have been perhaps presented a little more clearly, it's a nice little touch to have a booklet included with a standard 5-inch release and I hope FTD continues to include these mini-booklets with the 5-inch releases in the future!!

Overall, I am very impressed with HIGH SIERRA and I truly believe any Elvis fan who listens to this CD will also agree that it is a FANTASTIC release...it really is THAT good!!

Jungleroom76, it's nice to read your comments – Tahoe shows are very rare so were lucky to have this fine release.

    Cheers,

Geoffrey McDonnell has one of the world's biggest Elvis soundboard collections and he sure knows his stuff.

He wrote this good 'High Sierra' review posted here on EIN.
