Following geordie's idea, here are The Strokes, paying tribute to Elvis not through doing an Elvis song but through video and borrowed iconography, pretty cool:

I think its cool to see 'stars' of today thinking Elvis is relevant enough to sing his songs..

.......however, I don't particularly enjoy their versions.......nobody does them as well as him

I don't mind some versions, but you're right and in the words of Carly Simon nobody does it better, makes me feel sad for the rest

From a recent interview with Ian Gillan of group Deep Purple.

How do you define a rock singer? Who in your opinion is the greatest?

Itís all very different; I donít think itís a science but if you were ask me who had the greatest voice in rock music of all time I would have to say a young Elvis Presley, without a doubt. He was the Pavarotti of rock music. I remember listening to Dame Kiri Te Kanawa a few years ago on the BBC and the presenter asked her who she thought was the greatest voice she had ever heard. I was expecting her to say something like Caruso, Joan Sutherland or Pavarotti, but she said the young Elvis. He touched us all, he got through to us, his personality. Technically he was perfect, his pitch and tone were absolutely wonderful and his sense of rhythm, something came deep inside him that literally did touch us all. Thatís a secret of greatness.

Thought this was worthy of a share, I quite enjoyed this little mashup, Elvis' voice sounds good over Muses song Madness. There are occassions, especially where Elvis sings "do we simply turn our heads and look the other way" that the beat skips past Elvis' vocal, but all in all I like it.

This shows you don't have to think you're Elvis to pay tribute to him !!!

Re: Paying Tribute to The King

Most of the songs in this thread are just cover versions of Elvis' songs. But I find some of the best tributes to Elvis are the songs written about him. We need more of these on this thread.

One of my favourite Elvis tribute songs has always been Alannah Myles' Black Velvet and Mojo Nixon's Elvis Is Everywhere.

Here is a great 2009 tribute song from Billy Ray Cyrus:
