Re: Paying Tribute to The King

As you know 50's and 60's american music was a huge influencee on jamaican music, lots and lots of covers of american hits where done in jamaican style until the late 60's, when finally singers/songwriters left covers behind in order to do their own material.

Now there was a post of rock steady groups doing Elvis on this thread before, but check out this: Bob Marley himself covering the '65 Elvis #1 hit Crying In The Chapel!

He changed the lyrics so a southern U.S. gospel song fit into rastafarian believes. Sounds fantastic to me!

Brilliant thread, my little addition here is The Fine Young Cannibals, loved their version of Suspicious Minds back in the 80s. The lead singer Roland has a very unique voice, you will either love it or hate it.

This is so good, now this is the kind of artists EPE should invite for a tribute albume in order to get the ears of new generations, not those lousy duets with awful new backing tracks.

In 1994, the vocalist of a 60's band from Norway, The Beatniks, got together with Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana and made a 40th anniversary tribute to "That's Allright Mama". I think this is the greatest tribute to this song ever made. The vocalist, Kjell Jørung, is a huge Elvis fan.

Scouting for Girls singing Elvis Ain't Dead. Plenty of Elvis imagery.
