Thank you for sharing these videos! These prove that you can be an artist doing your own thing and being known for your own thing while having the occasional joy of interpreting an Elvisly song.
all the goons I left behind,
memories still linger..
And how can we forget Willie Nelson!
Just a note on this song, everybody credits this song as originally recorded by Brenda Lee. It is only half true. The song was writen for Elvis Presley, and he was the first one to record it in March '72, yet the track was shelved and not issued until November same year. By then the song had already been recorded and released by Brenda Lee who had a moderate hit with it on the country charts. Presley version, despite being released as a B side, and the song already asociated with Brenda Lee, became the world wide known hit.

This is Hortense Ellis, from Kingstone Jamaica. Now not many people know this, but Presley was quite a sensation in Jamaica. Ellis had moderate success in Britain during the 70's, but she was a big deal in Jamaica since the early 60's. She covered this one somewhere around 1970.
Can't forget the Judds.
I dream a world where man no other man
will scorn. Where LOVE will bless the earth
and peace its paths adorn...
In fact, let's go Reggae for a while, you'll be amazed by the amount of artists that covered Elvis Presley in Jamaica during the 60's & 70's.

Well I think here Mr. Charles is just doing one of his own signature hits, and not really paying tribute to Elvis at all, same thing with Big Mama Thornton.
Great videos anyhow, maybe a similar thread about Presley's favourite artists and the originals from songs that he covered would be interesting.
Gabba Gabba Hey! Johnny Ramone doing a fantastic instrumental version of Viva las Vegas!
Johnny Ramone had a terrific movie memorabilia collection. Apart from the Elvis stuff in the photo above, he had great old 50s sci-fi stuff
Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead, Johnny Ramone from well duh! The Ramones.
