Funny How Time Slips Away - origin

Funny How Time Slips Away was written by Willie Nelson in the early 60s and there were various covers before Elvis made his version in June 1970.

This is the version Elvis was inspired by:

Ricky Nelson covered the song on his album "Country Fever" in April 1967.

As you can hear, the backing is very similar, especially the guitar. That is no surprise, as James Burton featured on both versions. Ricky's version also featured Elvis' future pianist Glen D. Hardin, who would later appear on Elvis' live versions of the track.

One of my top five favorite Elvis songs. I'm glad you posted this. I knew that Willie wrote it in the erly part of his career, but I've never heard Ricky's version before. Nice work.
