    Polk Salad Annie

I love Elvis' version of this song from 1970...

The version from 1972, I like the guitar solo but prefer the slower version, this is to fast for my liking...

I also think this is a very cool version

    Tony Joe White..

    What do you think?

    Re: Polk Salad Annie

I think this song was a good choice for his setlist because it provided him with a then contemporary rock song to sing.

That said Elvis' version from the On Stage/second Vegas engagement form early 1970 was the best after that it seemed he didn't put as much thought into it and it was rushed.

Tony Joe White's original I still give the edge to.

I prefer the 1970 version, but lets face facts. Polk Salad Annie was the jam anytime Elvis played it live. The TCB band had one of the tightest rhythm sections in rock and of course E tore it up onstage. I really dug all three performances being shown here.

I love the 1972 version. Especially with the groovy bass solo by Jerry

I'm partial to the Jan-Feb versions from 1970. By August, he already had sped the song up considerably. But those early versions are straight up swamp funky!

1969/70 for me as well. In fact, everything about Elvis at that time was the best having to include '68 with those years..

Always loved the song, he should have done more TJW's "swamp songs" , HIGH SHERIFF, and WILLIE AND LAURA MAE JONES, in particular, as for PSA after he dropped the narration, i thought the song suffered.

I think the version from the On Stage album, was the best I've ever heard! From the guitar licks, too EP's grittier performance, it rocks!

Go brush your mouth Matt.... and your hands! Putting Tony Joe's version in the list

Eventhough his version is the original, it can't match Elvis' version.
