Thread: Which one is THE BEST BIO(graphy)??

  1. #21
There are so many good books out there, along with a ton of trash, but the 2 Peter Guralnick books are the way to go.
    Take care,

The book of Larry Geller is not bad. I like it.
But maybe sometimes there is too much Larry words then Elvis....
    But the book not bad.
'My music is why I was put on this earth' Elvis Presley

I would have to say that the Guralnick books are the definitive Elvis biographies.

Darn it, I can't wait to get my hands on those.... (i am in the process of ordering them....)

My choice would be both Guralnick's books-THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY MUST TO READ And speaking bout Me and Elvis-quite interesting to read, though sometimes it seems that Elvis was a baaad baad guy who hurt poor Cilla sooo badly (and speaking bout that rape scene...ummm... )

As mentioned, Last Train and Careless Love. Although Careless isn't nearly as well-written as Last Train and carries through many errors from the books he used as sources, particularly regarding Parker and Priscilla.

I also agree with Day By Day.

Not all complete biographies, however I consider them near essentials for fleshing out the picture:

Elvis Presley - Bobbie Ann Mason
Elvis and Gladys - Elaine Dundy
    Elvis: A Bio-Bibliography - Patsy Guy Hammontree
Portrait of a Friend - Marty Lacker (mainly for the piece by Mrs. Lacker)
That's Alright Elvis - Scotty Moore
    The Colonel - Alanna Nash
Elvis: Word for Word - Jerry Hopkins
Elvis in Focus - Sean Shaver

The site you mentioned is very good. Two other good resources for Elvis book info:

    Enjoy!
