Thread: Which one is THE BEST BIO(graphy)??

Question Which one is THE BEST BIO(graphy)??

Having come back to Elvis after ten years of being a "sleeping" fan, I am wide awake now!

In 1981/83 I read Goldmans, cause it was the only thing out there. So I want to know from all of you: What is the best Elvis Bio out there?

    Goldmans????
    Please only not Goldman.

Peter Guranick Last Train to Memphis is great book. But his second book I don't like it very much. A lot of old information.

I read a Child Bride. Guess this is a very good book. And very true information. I believe it 100%.
You right Mez it paints a very different picture but because it tells the cruel truth but not a lie or fairytail.

I got it from the library, I do not own it (and I never will!!)

    So far I red further:

    Elvis and Me
Priscilla, Elvis and Me by Micheal Edwards
    Childbride
    Larry Gellers book
Lisa Marie Presley Sex Drugs & Rock?n Roll

but its time now for a real Elvis bio! So I ordered the two Guralnick books somewhere for EUR 8,99 a piece! Hope I receive them cause that price is too good to be true....

That's a pretty essential list, though as has been said, Careless Love leaves a little to be desired.

Hey ComeBackChick, what is Lisa's book like? I know nothing of it.
...you won't forget me when I go.

Its not much, just a recap of tabloid stuff, I got it because of the pics, and because there is not much more about her on the market. She did quite a bunch of interviews, you get more out of those then from this book.

Yes it certainly does paint a different picture of Priscilla.

Priscilla Presley fascinates me and i first read her book at the age of 12. Obviously it all sounded like a fairy tale. That was in 1990. In 1998, I read Child Bride. I think that the events in the book seem much more believeable and realistic. Even though in some parts it repeats itself and seems like the author is out to get Priscilla.
Basically Child Bride seems to portray that Priscilla and/or her parents were very determined for her to marry Elvis and that her parents were so keen for her to live with and marry him, no matter how Priscilla felt.
Yes Priscilla isn't perfect but who is? She is a very determined lady.

My fascination with her hasn't changed after reading Child Bride. She just did what she and her parents had to do. (Whether that is good or bad is up to the individual's opinion).

For Elvis: 'I hear your voice, simply divine. I have no choice, I'll tell you why. I love you without trying. It has always been this way. I love you without trying. And in my heart you'll stay.'

I'm still planning to order that one, along with one about The Colonel.

But I loved both books from Peter Guranicks. You can find nice snippets of information in "Elvis Day by Day" (from Guranick and Ernst).

A great book with tons of information is "Elvis By Those Who Knew Him Best". In that book Elvis' life is divided in several eras and situations (early, the start, army, and so on). And every chapter consist of stories from people that actually met Elvis. During the Hayride period you have stories from people that also performed during those shows with Elvis, stories from the owner of the building, etc. It really gives you a nice inside view of a life with Elvis.

The truth... is Her parents sell out her to the superstar and millioner. That's all. She didn't want it. She didn't want to leave her family.
    And she never loved Elvis.
    Very sad.

This morning I watched the episode of The Definitive Collection "The spiritual side of Elvis", with a lot of Larry Geller. It made my think that I really liked his book a lot!
