concert versions are better, Elvis really put himself out there for the operatic finale
i have tried for years to try and appreciate the studio version of hurt but it seems that the live versions win me over , of all of them the version from rapid city 77 is my fave , i just love the whole way it's done to perfection. The part i don't like about the studio version is the vebrado ending it just doesn't sound as together as the live versions for me, so what about you?

I like the Johnson City march 17, 1976 version.
I Like the dirty version
TCB,
See See Rider
I like the live version from elvis in concert cbs 1977 most.
Lots of power in his voice![]()
The best was the last.
all the goons I left behind,
memories still linger..
The studio version is superior to any live version I have heard, although I do enjoy the live versions. The studio version is a very controlled, flawless vocal. Even the spoken part is perfectly delivered. He goes up one extra note at the end on some live versions, but there is more to good singing than high notes and the studio version still eclipses these versions.
concert Ilove it
all the goons I left behind,
memories still linger..
It's Got Be Any Live Version.![]()
Shall I Return Safe Home Again To England.
Love both, but live just has the edge for me.
both are good, but I probably prefer live thanks to the incredible power on the final notes.
Yes, June 26, 1977 is a mighty version. The December '76 tour might feature the best takes.
For me i really like the studio version but the live versions just showed the power of elvis's voice with the end note he hits.
Love the studio version. Just listened to it now. Reminder for the peeps that like the live version better: Elvis hardly ever sang it better live than in the studio in 1976. He sounds as brilliant as on the record. in 1976 he was singing it too "wide" and "colored" the voice too much which gave him the very deep "dramatic baritonal sound" but that's why he couldn't climb higher at the end. In 1977 he sang it "lighter" and "colored" less and got a tenoral quality. Of course when he realized how effortless he's singing it he had no problems going even higher as usual and sometimes even hit a tenor high C. Every version recorded in 1977 sounds brilliant.
Live versions everytime for me, Simply for the fact he was never better than having his audience
in front of him, His fans brought out the very best in him.
Don't like this song at all![]()
