    vernon presley buisness manager

much has bin said about ELVIS spending habits and his enormous earnings durring his lifetime, i believe that it must have bin shocking for cilla and others to find out how little was in the bank , ive haed them say he was on the verfe of banruptcy etc.. I often wondered if VERNON should have bin ELVIS buisness manager, especially with his limited education and buisness savy, ELVIS should have seeked out a finacial advisor at the keat, but i feel that ELVIS always took his fame for granted and always expected that he would be able to earn all his life [and it sure looks like it 32 years later], he should have bin thinking about lisa and should have involved himself more in the buisness part of his life, and it seems vernon was a wrong choice.

No doubt Vernon and Col Parker were horrible influences upon Elvis..his problem was he trusted and respected some people way too much.
Yep...I'm still here............. Not too sure why though.
Luv ya guys and gals, but almost no one talks to me.
Marty Lacker was wrong, (so was Getlo) not that anyone cares. I'm busy with other interesting offers, and the only important thing is that I can take whatever gets tossed my direction. Maybe a little like Elvis...I don't break. And I never give in.
    See ya~

I don't think Vernon was educated enough to take on the task of running the 'empire' of the Worlds Greatest Entertainer.

If Elvis listened to him, Vernon could have been better for him as he was known to watch the $$$$$, and so Elvis would not have been as frivolous in his private life.

Elvis and Vernon had the same problem that I would have and many of you could have if all of a sudden you turn from 'rags to riches'.

I am not rich, but if I were, I probably would say to myself, ok let's spend spend spend for some time to do things that I never had the funds to do and then I will start taking care of business, promise. Probably I would wake someday after 20 or so years and find myself I hadn't started taking care of business or worse still heavily in debt.

But how can you manage money if you never had any?

Unless you have a manager who is ready, willing and able to hold his/her artist's spending brakes, that's what will happen.

a Manager can't put the brakes on your personal spending though............

Elvis had a very extravagent nature, unfortunately he wouldn't listen to his Dad who was more frugal

I agree with you but not entirely. You are not born like that, you become. I don't think that Vernon confronted Elvis when he was cashing big time. He only did so in the mid 70's when holes began to appear in EP's finances. He had to do so early on in the 50's.

In the end everyone around benefited from the money-making-machine called Elvis including his father and manager. Unfortunately it was : as long as the cow milks, let's all have a sip.

I think people who have lived in such poverty, like Vernon and Gladys, and for Vernon to be that desperate so as to forge a cheque and end up in prison, Vernon was bound to always be very frugal and worry that one day the money may run out!

I think he probably always worried about that.

As far as Elvis's spending habits go. IMO it was his money and he could do what he wanted with it. That's all there is to it IMO. However in the end, this seemed to be one of the problems, if these programmes are to be believed. One minute its reported that Vernon tells Elvis to stop spending so much and Elvis replies "If we spend it all, I'll just make more" But then we hear that even though he wants to take a break from touring (in the late 70s) , he feels like he can't because he has a payroll to think of.

He shared more than enough while he was alive. And it's not like he left his family living in the streets after his death either...

That's true in every phase of Elvis' life. All we can do is read and come to our own conclusions.......

Absolutely right. We all generally read and watch the same things, and its just matters of opinions as to who and what we choose to believe.
