FTD THE COLLECTORS LABEL.

since the inception of ftd as the collectors label we cd collectors have had many great releases on shiny , but i also believe we have had some disapointments , especially if you collect imort cd's as well, you most certainly ended up with more than your share of duplicate albums . As a collector and someone who wants to hear evrything ELVIS PRSELEY ever sang , this is what happens the frustrating part is that many of these cd's end up on the shelf never to be played again , so i would like to know do we really need a collectors label?

YES!

It's quite true that FTD has released some of the same items that are (and have been) available on import (bootleg) titles. However, you have to realize that there's a lot of fans that do not have access to, or would rather not deal with, obtaining import/boot music releases. Therefore, there needs to be an avenue for those fans who wish to go the "legal" purchasing route.

I'm a solid supporter of FTD. I think Ernst J and his team have done a fantastic job with the releases they have provided us to this point (although I think it's past time in cutting back on those 76 concert releases ).

Of course there's still tons of material that I (and I'm sure many of us) want to see released and question why it hasn't been released already - fair point. However, I remember back when I started collecting Elvis' music in 1990. There was hardly anything like what we have now from FTD available then.

While the import/boot labels have delivered us many-many great titles featuring outstanding material, and titles that yes FTD should have tried to release already (here we go again LOL ), they (FTD) spoil us with releases every few months.

So I thank you FTD, and keep on rocking!!!

yes, we do need FTD

bootlegs often do the job better, often not, but they are small runs and hard to find.

FTD make Elvis rarities accessible - expensive - but accessible.

Call me a cynic, but I’ve always tended to feel that FTD was nothing more than an attempt by the PTB to pretend to offer the serious collectors something, for rather high prices of course, while – and this is the main point – picking up some of the business siphoned off by the bootleggers.

If RCA and BMG were serious about true Elvis fans/collectors, the stuff would be not only more affordable, but more regular for release schedules. As it is, it’s all sort of a mystery game they play with us (“You all don’t know what we got, and you’ll just have to wait…and then pay!”)

True, they do occasionally come out with great stuff, but I don’t like their attitude.

i sure agree with you , i have bin collecting boots since way back in 86 on cd and the booters always come out with better material and there is so much that you can choose what you want, and the prices most times are reasonale, especially now they are really giving us great product with great art graphics etc[unfortunetly in low numbers] not evryone will have these in their collections but most of them are aimed at the die hards.

Well you have to remember also that the FTD CD's are limited both in their availability as well as their production run, so it is understandable why the prices on these CD's are a little higher. Instead of having a cheaper priced CD in a retail store for lots of people to buy, you have a more expensive CD available in limited retail outlets for a smaller group of people to buy, therefore the cost of the FTD's is higher to recoup the production costs.

I also think the release schedule is pretty decent. They generally release a new CD around January 1st, April 1st, July 1st and October 1st. Yes, the dates aren't carved in stone, but generally there is a new release every 3 months or so plus the bonus releases which are generally released around the same time.

Like you, I certainly wish the FTD CD's were less expensive as well, but considering the alternative (trying to find the material on import CD's or not having it at all), I don't have a problem with the higher cost. Most fans just have to pick and choose which titles appeal to them since we all can't afford to own every single one...as much as I wish we could!!!

I do get boots as well as FTD..........

If I'm honest though, very rarely buy any cd's (boot or FTD) when we have the inclusion of all the 'solo' slots........they drive me dotty!!!!!
