at times i wonder what if ELVIS PRESLEY had lost his fame would he at least have 2 good friends and a good woman by his side [of those that were there when he had everything and was ELVIS], I know for certain he would make new ones and would certainly straighten out his lifestyle[i hope], i mean he could always go back to driving a truck or being a electrician, so what say all of you ? what if....
Unfortunately, I don't believe many "best friends" would still be around.
I'm reading a book now {fiction} that sounds so much like Elvis' life, it isn't funny.
I can see his life, circumstances & "friends" in it all.

He was meant to be ELVIS....and like other legend I have in mind Marylin....they could'nt have been nothing less that what they were....Elvis was way in advance in his style...his look...just look at some pictures from any period...look into pics from the vegas period...look at the audience...wow and look at him....he was apart and he will ever be...take him back then,,,and bring him today and he will fit in time and still will be ahead...and when you're that kind of person you do carry with you some persons that pretend to be friends...but just wanted to be part of the stream.....thanks for reading me

To me Elvis coud do something if he found one good girl in his life. He needed one woman to share all his life, like did with his mother.
It all depends on what period in Elvis' life were talking about. if he lost his fame in the 50s he'd probably go on to be an electrician or driving a truck etc. But i dont see how he could have gone into that sort of job if he lost his fame after around 62-63.
Same with the friends, the friends he found in the 50s might have stayed around (if he lost his fame in the 50s), his cousins would still be around. The famous girlfriends of the 50s would have gone, but june junico etc probs would have gone on to have a happy marrage with Elvis. But, again, the longer his fame lasted the more hangers on appeared, all of which probs would have left.
Some might even leave not due to Elvis loosing fame but simply because Elvis supported them and would have to get a life of their own once the money dried up.
I think Elvis was born to be famouse ! If he even lost everything he would still be the great Elvis presley ! This man could be popular just by walking in the streets !

He was so very young when fame & fortune came to him.
I can't & won't place all the blame on him.
He lived in a "bubble" away from the real world as most of us know it.
To come from poverty to riches, affects many lesser men .
Not always in a good way either. I think he tried to make the world better for many.
IMO if money was still around, nothing would have changed.
Not to be controversial, but, I do believe that by 1977 Elvis has lost quite a bit and if he had lived, his popularity would have slid rapidly.
Ok, here in this forum we are all fans, but I do not imagine someone listeneng to 'Raised on Rock' or 'From EP Boulevard" and become a fan from there. I am perhaps an exception starting with "Moody Blue" BUT after EP died.
Elvis' music was in the 'pop' world, which as opposed to jazz or classical or blues, being contemporary is a must. I think that the last contemporary recording EP made was in 1969 and prior to that 1960. Otherwise, I believe Elvis' material was directed to those who were already fans. (Don't get me wrong I like most ep songs though I am an EP in the 70's freak but if I want to be objective...)
While 14-20 year olds (contemporary age group) were listening to Elvis in 1956, most of their counterparts in 1966 were probably listening to the Beach Boys, Beatles and starting to indulge in the Flower Power era, where Elvis' music completely missed it. Worse still in 1976 were the 14-20 'pop' aged kids were probably listening to disco, hard rock, punk or soul.
Elvis had a niche and kept that niche quite well but in my opinion he did little to attract new fans and remain a contemporary artist - he was becoming a 'for old times sake' artist, which is a pity since he had talent which if channelled correctly (e.g. choosing contemporary songs with chart topping potential, maybe engaging a strong songwriting team similar to Lieber & Stoller, appearing on tv shows etc) could have kept Elvis contemporary.

take it from one of the many fans who was around in his lietime - He was still very, very, popular, huge as a matter of fact and i know that many new fans were up and comming through the later years especially from 73 , due to the aloha show also at his death with the re release of many deleted albums , believe you me he was still very much in demand to perform and get him in the studio to record.
Definetely the Aloha gave Elvis exposure and gave the message "Hey I'm still here!" no doubts about that.
I was only a 1 year old baby when Elvis died, so I definetely did not remember anything at the time! However judging by what happened when Michael Jackson died, I am sure the same thing happened (if not more) way back in 1977. Everyone becomes a fan, everyone mourns (even if during his lifetime they massacred the artist...)
What makes me think is the comment of a fan filmed for "Elvis in concert" : "He is the king no matter what". I think Elvis and those around him deciding his carrear, thought that too.

I totally agree. I also like to think what would Elvis be like if he didn't get the break at Sun Studios. I don't know if he would have kept driving the truck but I think he would have married Dixie Locke.
