    Follow that Dream is perhaps my fave movie song, although not really a forgotten one. Some less high profile ones I like are:

    A boy like me, a girl like you
    I don't wanna be tied
    So close, yet so far
    You're time hasn't come yet baby
    All I needed was the rain

    Let's Forget About The Stars comes to mind as does Summer Kisses, Winter Tears....Wild In The Country.......I'm not sure I Got Lucky fits that category but I love it.....I have to agree with So Close Yet So Far (From Paradise); Let Us Pray also comes to mind....I am sure I am forgetting a few.

    Because Elvis (as The King of Rock'n Roll) received (and still receives) so much criticism on his movies, the fans seem to be embarrased by them. And because those sessions for the moviesoundtracks replaced sessions of the regular (and mostly stronger) studioalbums.

    Many of the soundtracksongs aren't near as good as tracks from albums like 'Elvis Is Back', 'Pot Luck' or 'Something For Everybody', most of the times they were still entertaining. And there even are quite a few very good songs recorded for the soundtracks.

    These are (in my opinion) underrated gems:
    * All That I Am
    * Almost
    * Can't Help Falling In Love
    * Change Of Habits
    * Clean Up Your Own Backyard
    * Dixieland Rock
    * Edge Or Reality (almost 60's psychodelic)
    * Have a Happy
    * I Need Somebody To Lean On
    * Let Us Pray
    * Let Yourself Go
    * Spinout
    * They Remind Me Too Much of You
    * Tonight Is Allright For Love
    * Trouble

    and many more...

    These songs are strong enough to be on normal studioalbums, or be released as single. Great quality...

    There are far to many favourite movie songs for me to name but if I have to name two off the top of my head i would say..

    Young Dreams -King Creole

    vino dinero y' amor - Fun in Acapulco
    Elvis grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
    the courage to change the things I can
    and the wisdom to know the difference

    GREAT QUESTION GEORDIE!!!

    In my opinion, as with most everyone else here, there are quite a few underrated movie songs that deserve more attention than they receive!

    Some of the underrated movie songs, in my opinion, are:

    * ALMOST
    * CHANGE OF HABIT
    * LET'S FORGET ABOUT THE STARS (although I have to say on this one that I am glad they didn't include it in CHARRO...considering CHARRO was a serious Western, this song just wouldn't have been appropriate for inclusion in the film in my opinion, despite how pretty it is!)

    * THE GIRL I NEVER LOVED
    * HARD LUCK (what a great blues song!)
    * IF YOU THINK I DON'T NEED YOU
    * SO CLOSE, YET SO FAR (FROM PARADISE)
    * DRUMS OF THE ISLANDS
    * I'LL BE BACK
    * CITY BY NIGHT
    * ALMOST IN LOVE
    * EDGE OF REALITY
    * POCKETFUL OF RAINBOWS

    I'm sure there are others I am forgetting right off hand, but these are a few of my favorite underrated movie songs!!!

    I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell is a favorite of mine I haven't seen mentioned yet.

    I first heard the non-movie version on a cassette of Separate Ways, I guess, and I've really dug it ever since. It is a highly underrated song, equally deserving of acclaim as many of the '50s chart-toppers, in my mind.

    It's so catchy! The movie version is appropriate for the situation, but the other really rocks!
    ...you won't forget me when I go.

    Ahhhh yes....the unforgettable Camden album SEPARATE WAYS with that goofy looking cover of Elvis standing in the middle of the highway just waiting to be run over!!!

    Not to mention the embarassing tracklisting for that album, with 2 of Elvis' greatest ballads from the 1970's mixed in with a bunch of lesser known songs. (I'm certainly not knocking the other songs on the SEPARATE WAYS album by any means...but SEPARATE WAYS and ALWAYS ON MY MIND certainly deserved better treatment than they got being stuck on a budget album!) Almost as embarassing as the BURNING LOVE AND HITS FROM HIS MOVIES VOL. 2 album from Camden (exactly when were SANTA LUCIA or I LOVE ONLY ONE GIRL hits for Elvis? Must have missed those on the charts!)

    GREAT CALL on I SLIPPED, I STUMBLED, I FELL though, buddy!!! A GREAT SONG FOR SURE!!!

    • Lonely Man
    • Stay Away (Greensleeves)
    • Where Do You Come From
    • Almost In Love

    If I confine it just to my favorites from the '60s movies, not counting the great studio songs used in Tickle Me or the excellent "Rubberneckin'," there're still a lot of songs. Even then I skipped many that I like a lot -- the soundtracks to Blue Hawaii and Fun In Acapulco, for example, are of a pretty unformly high standard and very enjoyable (beautiful lesser-known ballads like "Hawaiian Sunset," "Island Of Love," etc, etc, etc). Here's my list, including some songs recorded for the soundtrack but cut from the film:

    Shoppin' Around
    Doin' The Best I Can
    G.I. Blues
    Wooden Heart
    Pocketful Of Rainbows
    Summer Kisses, Winter Tears
    Flaming Star
    Lonely Man
    In My Way
    Wild In The Country
    Forget Me Never
    Aloha Oe
    No More
    Slicin' Sand
    Blue Hawaii
    Hawaiian Wedding Song
    Steppin' Out Of Line
    Can't Help Falling In Love
    Beach Boy Blues
    Rock A Hula Baby
    Angel
    Follow That Dream
    What A Wonderful Life
    King Of The Whole Wide World
    Home Is Where The Heart Is
    Riding The Rainbow
    I Got Lucky
    This Is Living
    We're Coming In Loaded
    Thanks To The Rolling Sea
    Girls! Girls! Girls!
    Return To Sender
    I Don't Wanna Be Tied
    We'll Be Together
    Mama
    Relax
    They Remind Me Too Much Of You
    One Broken Heart For Sale
    Beyond The Bend
    Bossa Nova Baby
    I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here
    Marguerita
    El Toro
    Guadalajara
    C'mon Everybody
    Viva Las Vegas
    I Need Somebody To Lean On
    Santa Lucia
    Today, Tomorrow, And Forever
    What'd I Say
    Kissin' Cousins
    Little Egypt
    Poison Ivy League
    Hard Knocks
    It's A Wonderful World
    Roustabout
    Big Love, Big Heartache
    One Track Heart
    Carny Town
    There's A Brand New Day On The Horizon
    Wheels On My Heels
    Puppet On A String
    The Meanest Girl In Town
    Girl Happy
    Cross My Heart, Hope To Die
    Spring Fever
    Do Not Disturb
    I've Got To Find My Baby
    Wolf Call
    Shake That Tambourine
    So Close, Yet So Far
    Wisdom Of The Ages
    Hey, Little Girl
    Animal Instinct
    Please Don't Stop Loving Me
    Shout It Out
    Frankie And Johnny
    Chesay
    Hard Luck
    Drums Of The Islands
    This Is My Heaven
    Sand Castles
    A Dog's Life (total garbage, but catchy garbage)
    Stop, Look, Listen
    Am I Ready
    Beach Shack (and the outtakes are classic)
    Spinout
    All That I Am
    I'll Be Back
    Could I Fall In Love?
    Double Trouble
    Baby, If You'll Give Me All Of Your Love
    Long Legged Girl
    City By Night
    Easy Come, Easy Go
    I'll Take Love
    She's A Machine
    You Gotta Stop
    How Can You Lose What You Never Had
    You Don't Know Me (but the studio version is FAR better)
    Clambake (can't help it!)
    Hey, Hey, Hey (again -- catchy garbage)
    There Ain't Nothing Like A Song
    Your Time Hasn't Come Yet, Baby
    Who Are You?
    Speedway
    Suppose
    Let Yourself Go
    All I Needed Was The Rain
    Dominick (I know -- its just so infernally appealing to me, darn it)
    Goin' Home
    Stay Away
    Wonderful World
    Edge Of Reality
    A Little Less Conversation
    Almost In Love
    Clean Up Your Own Back Yard
    Swing Down, Sweet Chariot
    Almost
    Charro!
    Change Of Habit

    Even if you're pickier than I am -- and these really are my favorites, meaning that there are plenty more that I like a lot -- there's a fair amount of good material there. Would I have preferred that Elvis' career had gone a different way in the '60s? Of course. But what he left us from the movie years still bears plenty of gems, albeit many are mere echoes of what he might have otherwise done. It'[s what we've got, and it's possible to greatly enjoy much of it. The films themselves, of course, have by now achieved a legitimacy that was more lacking before, given that so many of us grew up with them and they have collectively become almost a cult phenomenon.
    I'm a roving roustabout...

    Wow! You're so right... I guess Young Dreams, Almos In Love, Today, Tomorrow and Forever (with Ann-Margret) and many others should receive more atention. I'd like to add "Lover Doll".
