    Thanksgiving weekend greetings from Michigan

I'm posting from MIElvis' neck of the woods--Ann Arbor. Staying at my sister's new house.

Where we are now, and a couple cities along the way, were Elvis '77 concert stops (Cincinnati, Toledo)...Everything has to do with Elvis, of course.

As if having the three Thanksgiving dinners two days ago wasn't enough, we are now gearing up to stuff ourselves (not the turkey) silly with my mother's side of the family, Italian-style.

Going back several generations, ravioli was served as an appetizer or side dish along with the traditional turkey. Then somewhere along the way, the homemade ravioli became the focal point and the turkey was dropped from the menu.

A couple weeks ago, we made the ravioli from scratch back in Louisville (oh yeah--another EP '77 stop). It was frozen and brought up here in coolers on dry ice yesterday by my aunt. We made 1,040 of 'em, which is enough for every man, woman, and child to have about 20 each. They are stuffed with beef, spinach, romano cheese, garlic, and other seasonings, and served with a pork-seasoned marinara sauce. So, so good. And that's just the main dish.

I didn't see this, but when we were making them, someone mentioned seeing the ravi's (that's our family lingo) served for the Sopranos' Thanksgiving dinner. They got it from us. They had turkey too though. Actually, every now and then, we'll talk to some other Italian family who is surprised to hear that someone else is still doing as they do on Thanksgiving.

I just thought I'd share that with everybody. This is the first time we've had Thanksgiving in Michigan. My sister and her family just moved here from Texas, and my aunt and uncle recently moved here from Alabama--and they ended up in the same neighborhood. So celebrating the holiday at this location is a new tradition for us.

Well, I need to run. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

    Thanks a lot, Rene.

And Rajiv, if you crunched down on any bullet shells, then you're probably right!

They were really good, as always. Wish you all could try them.
