it first came out on the essential 70's boxset as it was when i purchased that,
that was the first time i ever heard it.
Hi,
I may be showing my ignorance here, but after 30 years as an Elvis fan I only found out today that there is a studio version of My Way. I had always assumed that this was something only performed live. I cannot recall hearing this anywhere in my record collection. I came accress this on 'You Tube' YouTube- Elvis - My Way (studio version) then I looked on Amazon and found it on the new 'Elvis 75' cd. Can anyone tell me when this was recorded and when it was first released? Is it something that has recently surfaced or have I really been ignorant for a long time!
Happy New Year to all fans
TCB,
Robert

My Way was recorded on 10 June 1971.
It was the last day of a 3 day recorded session 8-10 June, which yielded

Elvis began performing the song in concert during the mid-1970's, in spite of suggestions by Paul Anka, who told him it was not a song that would suit him. Nevertheless, on January 12 and 14 of 1973 Presley sang the song during his satellite show "Aloha from Hawaii"
On October 3, 1977, several weeks after his death, his live recording of "My Way" (recorded for the "Elvis In Concert" CBS-TV special on June 21, 1977) was released as a single. In the U.S., it reached number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart, number 6 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, and the following year reached number 2 on the Billboard Country singles chart but went all the way to number 1 on the rival Cash Box Country Singles chart. In the UK, it reached number 9 on the UK Singles Chart.

This studio version doesn't sound like the finished article. I wonder if Elvis did just one take then got fed up? I dont know if this was a serious attempt at an album track but assume it was not considered good enough for release at the time.
My bet is Robert, this was a one take version, never intended for release.
I like this version, but I actually prefer the 1977 version from EIC![]()
