    On Stage Reissued

Elvis Presley's 1970 live album, On Stage, will be reissued in an expanded format on March 23 by RCA/Legacy. The original album's 10-track playlist will also include three rarely performed songs from the same Las Vegas...

I love this album, it is Elvis at great time in his life. He sounds fantastic and absolutely on fire, the versions of Polk Salad Annie, Proud Mary & Suspicious Minds are awesome.

Great follow up from Legacy to the "From ELvis in Memphis" reissue.

On Stage is a fantastic Album, one of his bests, a favorite among fans, but somehow underrated or unknown, outside the Elvis world, it does totally deserves to be on the catalogue once again.

And as ELvis Back in Memphis was released as CD2 on "From Elvis in Memphis", its original partner: "Elvis in Person", (another great but underrated album), makes totally sense as CD2 of "On Stage".

Yep, some will argue that it is insane as FTD recently released "Elvis in Person" on the classic albums series, but we have to remember that this legacy reissues are not aimed necessarily to the old fan base, but to the average joe that just got interested in Elvis, to the potential new fans, to the people that it is just getting their second or third Elvis record, and they don't even know or care of FTD. So looking it that way, this legacy reissue is as great and welcome as "From Elvis in Memphis" and it is most positive for Elvis.

I just got FTd Elvis in Person, so I might just wait for On Stage on FTD Classic series, just as I did not got "From Elvis in Person" as I'm also waiting for FTD to release their version of it. But Im already old in this Elvis thing. This new Legacy reissues are perfect stuff for the new comers.

Great comments and it's great to have a second disc as powerful as the first – IN PERSON on CD-2 will blow the FTD out-of-the-water with its new remastered sound –– and be one of the best ever Elvis CD releases!!

I'd even go as far as to say Proud Mary never sounded better after Jan/Feb 1970.

It was slow, it sounded good and fresh, later on it was just too fast.

Seems like after Elvis performed a song for awhile they all sounded like that.

That's generally the way he did things pal. When he first debuted a song, it was pretty close to the original but the longer he did it, the more bored he got with the song, so he would speed it up or breeze through it just to get it done. PROUD MARY is one as you mentioned, another is AMERICAN TRILOGY...just listen to the versions from '72 & '73 when he truly gave the song the attention and power it deserved. Then by '74 & especially '75, he wasn't performing the song as powerfully or as straight forward as he used to.

I am most interested in hearing these rehearsals that are supposed to be included in the reissued ON STAGE CD.

    Re: On Stage Reissued

Just found this information on Elvisinfonet.com:

'On Stage' Legacy Edition 2CD (RCA/Legacy): More information on EIN's story yesterday, from the Sony press release.

Our 75th birthday celebration continues with this 2CD set celebrating Elvis' platinum-selling 1970 live album On Stage. Home to the hit single "The Wonder of You," On Stage has now been upgraded with new liner notes by Presley biographer Ken Sharp and rare photos from the peak of the artist's latter-day career. The original album's 10-song tracklist is now expanded with three rarely performed songs from the same Las Vegas engagement that produced the album: "Don't Cry Daddy", "Kentucky Rain""Long Tall Sally."

The disc's final addition is a unique glimpse of Elvis working on his repertoire, as he runs through "The Wonder Of You" at an afternoon rehearsal, only hours before the original album recordings were done later that night.

The second disc in the On Stage: Legacy Edition package is a newly- and remastered version of Elvis' first live album, 'In Person' (originally released as one half of the From Memphis To Vegas - From Vegas to Memphis double album in November 1969). Six bonus tracks from the same August 1969 engagement during which the original album was recorded, are included. Like its partner On Stage, the album In Person has also been certified platinum by the RIAA.

This 2-CD set is a potent reminder that Elvis was enjoying one of many career peaks during these engagements in Las Vegas. During the August 1969 shows that yielded In Person, the artist prowled the stage like a panther and shocked audiences with his full-throttle intensity. Conceived similarly to his '68 Comeback Special, these tracks capture Elvis doing what he did best, but now with a full stage band and an hour-long setlist.

By the 1970 gigs that comprise On Stage, the artist now included songs of contemporary writers like John Fogerty ("Proud Mary"), Dion ("Runaway"), Joe South ("Walk a Mile In My Shoes"), Tony Joe White ("Polk Salad Annie") and even The Beatles ("Yesterday"). His choice in covers, alongside his own new material, signalled that Elvis no longer had to rely on his past, and that he was now as much a part of the contempary scene as anybody.

This is really starting to become repetitive!! I realize that casual Elvis fans probably don't know or don't have the FTD re-issue of ELVIS IN PERSON, but still...it hasn't even been a year since FTD released the ELVIS IN PERSON reissue and now we're getting the IN PERSON album again on a mainstream release??? I just don't get it...

Agreed, there was a shelf life for each song and then it became a classic.

That's what I love about Elvis, you can listen to Elvis from 1956 to 1977 and you will find something that will be your favourite.

    Re: On Stage Reissued

Have always been a fan of this release, and now getting it in a 2cd expanded format will truly be nice

I'm curious as to what songs will appear from the rehearsal. We already have some of them courtesy of FTD.

The thing I'm dissapointed with on these Feb 1970 (RCA) recordings is that they never captured "All Shook", which was the show opener for this engagement. Always liked hearing it at the top of the program

    Here's your answer: $$$$

Everything on this CD has been released before, even the rehearsal stuff.

It is aimed more at the casual and non-fans really, not for the die-hards.

Oh believe me, I know Getlo!!!

I was just wondering why RCA doesn't really sit down and see what album REALLY needs to be re-issued and expanded like they did with the FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS CD. What about a double CD set of the Madison Square Garden shows with improved sound quality, especially the original LP? That album has NEVER received an upgrade...perhaps RCA could re-do an album like that (which has never seen an upgrade) instead of an album like ON STAGE, which was re-released once already with bonus tracks and improved sound, coupling it with an album that isn't even a year old on the FTD label.

This should've been done years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean they could really make a nice package with a complete reemastering of the two shows they taped, along with the many photos, newspaper reviews, and Elvis' New York press conference.

In the meantime, we'll continue playing the waiting game

Absolutely!! Considering what a moment this was in Elvis' career, playing the Garden, I'm surprised a nice package like this hasn't already been done.
