ON 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF VIVA LAS VEGAS...
THE TRUE ABOUT ANN-MARGRET & ELVIS
Viva Elvis Presley,purrs Ann-Margret!
It's been almost 40 years since the King dirty danced with the Swedish sex kitten in the film musical Viva Las Vegas-and the 62 year old actress' red hair still stands on end thinking of her steamy Sin City escape.
"It was magic being with Elvis",reveals Ann-Margret,who's usually reluctant to talk about her relationship with the hip-swiveling idol.
"Elvis and I becamevery close doing that movie",she says in an exclusive interview."We were crazy about each other. We knew it couldn't last because we were both concentrating so strongly on our careers".
But Ann-Margret,22 at the time, wasn't ready to be Mrs.Elvis Presley.
"So there was no way we could have lived happily forever",she laments."Our characters got married at the end of the movie, but that's a Hollywood ending!"
She still cherishes carousing with Elvis on the flim's set."We worked really well togheter,"she recalls."Everything we did-singing,dancing,dialogue-went smoothly at all times. We were meant to star in that film togheter because it was a such a perfect experience for both of us".
Despite theri busy film schedule,Elvis and Ann still managed to sneak off and spend secret time together while the world slept.
"We would talk for hours at my house in the middleof the night,"she reveals."We talked about everything-our love for our families, our careers, our goals, our spiritual views, music.
"Sometimes we would drive around my little sports car for hours at the time...we would drive all over Los Angeles,to the beach,up in the hills and mountains.Everything was still and quiet at that time of night, and we felt like we owned the world.
"Elvis would come over to my house alone, away from his entourage, and we shared such wonderful time together."
They were still romantically involved when President John Kennedy was assassinated.Ann immediately drove to Elvis's house in the Hollywood Hills for comfort and emotional support.
"We both cried all afternoon as we wacthed everything on Tv",she says,"We were in shock and I remember we said prayers together for the president, for his family and for the country.
"I had met President Kennedy and sang at a party for him only six mouths before,so I felt just terrible.
"Just being with Elvis on that awful day helped me survive,I will always be grateful to him for that".
Ann and Elvis parted ways soon after they finished filming Viva Las Vegas. Both would eventually marry within a week of each other in May 1967-Elvis to Priscilla Beaulieu and Ann to Roger Smith.
Ann doesn't regret kissing Elvis farewell. In fact, lighting up Las Vegas with the Hound Dog remains a very special time in her life.
"And it will live on forever,"she says,"thank's to the movie."

Great Giorgia for this article. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much for the nice article.
I dream a world where man no other man
will scorn. Where LOVE will bless the earth
and peace its paths adorn...
How very nice to read what Ann says about Elvis, the Movie and the way things were then, even the tragic assassination of President Kennedy.
As always Ann is a beautiful person, unwilling to muck up the memory of the King. Makes her pretty much one of a kind, and I love her for that.
I'm sure we can all figure it out, without being told boldly in any book.
Still, I wish they had stayed together. Not my choice to make though.
"I just wanna be......your Teddy Bear"

that was a great article Giorgia.
Really sweet of Ann-Margret
xoxoxo
Great article, i like Ann-Margret because she is loyal to Elvis. Thanks for sharing Giorgia.![]()
Of all Elvis' leading ladies, Ann-Margret will always be Number One. Not because she was the sexiest, or the best actress (although she certainly qualifies on both counts!), or because "Viva Las Vegas" was that great of a film , but because the on-screen chemistry between them was NOT ACTING. It's probably why Viva Las Vegas is still one of the best-remembered of both Elvis' and AM's films![]()
He was the firstest with the mostest.
Thanks, for posting Giorgia.
I really enjoyed reading that.
