As,I write before,I'm so sure,Elvis would do better film. And Elvis not signed those contracts of his own free will, because Jerry Shilling on a commentary from Love Me Tender, said that Elvis was so frustrated and hungry, because he wouldn't do those film, but he was obliged to do that for the contract! And if Elvis was said no,and most of the time,he said no,the others(I think the producers,I don't remember, sorry) said to him:If you don't do this, you're career it's finished,so it's normal that Elvis do that!

Technically yes, Elvis signed the contracts of his own free will...

HOWEVER...Elvis was a very trusting (too trusting unfortunately) person and was under the impression that The Colonel had Elvis' best interests at heart when he negotiated those movie contracts for Elvis. Thus I am sure Elvis probably didn't read them as carefully as he should have...

So does that still make Elvis liable? Well he probably should have taken the time to read all of the contracts he signed (looking back now on all that we know about The Colonel), but as I said, Elvis was under the assumption that the deals that The Colonel made were made with Elvis' best interests at heart, which we obviously know now that is not true!!!

    Re: Elvis as an Actor...

I have all the movies and IMO, Elvis was a very fine actor when ever he was given the chance to show it.

    Just some thoughts
I really don`t understand why he wasn`t accepted as an serious actor and why he wasn`t given some more great films, because....I really think he was capable to do almost anything in a great way.
What I do understand is, that Parker wanted and signed him to make films with music so he could earn on both the films and the music at the same time......Well, at first, it might have seemed right to Elvis, but then again......it wasn`t what Elvis wanted in the end.
I don`t know, but maybe....If Elvis have had more serious films, he might have recorded some great music of his own choice in his spare time(More than he actually did). I do like a lot of the moviesongs, but somehow.....I think Elvis would have done something else if he didn`t had to record those songs for the movies, and in the end......he would have been more satisfied with his work.......more proud of what he did, and then it all might have had another outcome......better or worce?....nobody will ever know, and nobody can change anything.
So I just enjoy everything we have, because......It`s ELVIS

Very true Mike, he was too trusting, and should have stood his ground more than he did.
He couldn't be bothered with the 'fine points' or details.........which didn't help his creativity.

I truly believe that if Elvis had received more quality scripts (along the lines of JAILHOUSE ROCK, KING CREOLE & WILD IN THE COUNTRY) that he could have really showed off his acting abilities.

Unfortunately, because Elvis was locked into the endless stream of musicals, most producers and directors wouldn't even look at Elvis for a more dramatic role. Again though, I don't think it was because of Elvis' acting ability...some of the lesser quality movies were only decent because Elvis was the star...but because of the quality of the scripts!
