I defineteley do not consider these shows as disaster! Why?
Because Elvis in LAs Vegas, particularly near the end of the engagement became friendly with the audience?
It is not the first (or last) Vegas engagement where Elvis said or did outrageous things.
September 1973 CS he came on stage held by Lamar Fike, wearing a stuffed monkey on his shoulder. Later on a bed was moved on stage where Elvis laid down on it!
For me the August - September 1974 Vegas engagement is considered a potential opportunity to change, which unfortunately was not taken advantage of (repertoire and costume wise)
Many songs were sung for the first time (Good time Charlie's got the blues, Promised Land, If you love me, It's midnight, If you talk in your sleep) reintroduced others (Big boss man, Never been to Spain, Softly as I leave you, I'm leavin, The wonder of you)
Introduced new, contemporary costumes.
Ok he was rather talkative, but still gave very good shows, including many karate demonstrations.
So hardly a disaster after all!
Could not agree more.
So Elvis on Closing night let everyone know how he felt about the drug rumours going around, big deal, he was the BOSS!!
"How do I get placed in situations like this? Ah hell, I guess it's all part of showbusiness "~ Elvis in his limo on his way to perform in Omaha, NE on June 19th 1977
