100% right Richardo316!!! Elvis originally grew them in the 50's because all of the truck drivers had them, and of course that was one of his early jobs! After he was discharged from the Army, Elvis actually didn't grow his sideburns back out for several years, probably because they weren't as popular during the early to mid '60's. But around the time of the '68 Special, it seems that sideburns were starting to become the "in" style again, thus the reason he re-grew them and stuck with them for the rest of his life.Originally Posted by richardo316

Advantages of sideburns-especially in winter
I really like Elvis with sideburns. But in 1976 and 1977 they were way too big (but much better if you compare Elvis' haird and sideburns with the hair of other famous stars and bands during that period).
Just imagine how Elvis would look like in 75-77 without sideburns

Most of the times I liked Elvis' sideburns. But somewhere during '76 they became too "pointy". That was also the time that he combed his hair forward. Besides that short period, I must say that I haven't seen anyone that had betterlooking sideburns than Elvis
