i believe he just played rythm guitar and just mostly sang.

he played guitar in the 50's while he toured and on most of the tv appearances

He never just played guitar on anything. It was always to accompany singing. His playing is at the heart of his early Sun Record cuts, as there were only three instruments. As the band grew, his playing became less at the centre of things.
